Warner Bros. ended its CinemaCon presentation with a preview of Dune: Part Three, their major film planned for the 2026 holiday season. Attendees were shown the first seven minutes of the movie. Director Denis Villeneuve, along with stars Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, and Jason Momoa, were present to discuss what viewers can anticipate from the concluding installment of the Dune trilogy.
New footage from Dune: Part Two, shared by The Hollywood Reporter, opens with a fierce battle led by Stilgar (Javier Bardem). The trailer then shows a resurrected Duncan Idaho (Jason Momoa) confronting Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), saying, “You’ve conquered the galaxy and destroyed countless worlds… I don’t think you can be saved.” We also see Chani ask Paul, “What’s it like to be as vulnerable as the rest of us?”

Timothée Chalamet, the star of Dune, revealed that his character, Paul Atreides, is on a dark path, potentially becoming everything he fears most. He hinted at Paul’s evolution into a powerful, even menacing, ruler of the universe. The new footage also confirmed that Dune: Part Three will be set 17 years after the events of Dune: Part Two, and this significant time jump will be a key element of the story, according to Zendaya.
Things haven’t been easy for the people of Dune lately. The past few years have been harsh, and the optimism they once had is gone. There’s still a lot at stake, but it’s clear time has taken its toll.
Director Denis Villeneuve has explained his vision for the Dune films, aiming for a distinct feel with each installment. He characterized the first film as thoughtful and reflective, while Dune: Part Two was designed as a large-scale war movie. Looking ahead to Dune: Part Three, Villeneuve says it will be a fast-paced, emotionally driven thriller with even more action.
The recently shown footage at CinemaCon has significantly increased excitement for Dune: Part Three, which is expected to be a major blockbuster in 2026. The film is confidently opening against Avengers: Doomsday, and has already secured IMAX screens, preventing the Marvel movie from using the format for at least three weeks. Tickets for the limited 70mm IMAX showings of Dune: Part Three went on sale eight months in advance and sold out immediately, with some being resold for as much as $1,000.
With the first two Dune movies being so successful, anticipation for Dune: Part Three is incredibly high. Fans are hoping for a grand finale similar to The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, but there’s also a risk it could disappoint like Avatar: Fire and Ash, The Dark Knight Rises, or Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Considering the first two films were nominated for Best Picture, Dune: Part Three is already being talked about as a potential Academy Award winner, and many believe it could finally earn Timothée Chalamet the Oscar he’s been aiming for.
