The celebrated director, an Academy Award winner, received a standing ovation at a recent event where he unveiled exciting new footage from his upcoming film, The Odyssey. His adaptation of the classic Greek epic will once again feature a star-studded cast, including as Odysseus, alongside Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, and a host of other prominent actors.
New video footage shows Matt Damon with a full beard, walking along a beach and appearing confused about his past – similar to his famous character Jason Bourne. He questions if he ever had a wife or children, even wondering about the age of a potential son. The video also confirms that actress Jodie Comer will be playing the goddess Calypso.

The character claims to have no memory of anything before the city of Troy, and the rest of the scene focuses on the famous battle. It depicts the attack involving the Trojan horse – a massive wooden statue wheeled into the city by the Greeks, a decision that proves disastrous. According to Variety, the Greeks are then forced to remain silent as the Trojans unknowingly stab swords into the statue, even accidentally cutting into a hidden soldier within.
This new footage looks similar to clips that were previously leaked, but most of it seems fresh. It shows Odysseus motivating his troops as they row through a storm, then firing arrows during a nighttime attack. The clip ends with Odysseus and his men confronting the cyclops Polyphemus, who grabs one of the soldiers before the video cuts out.
After seeing the preview footage—which strongly suggests that The Odyssey will be another huge, ambitious film for director Christopher Nolan—he explained his choice of subject matter. He didn’t see it as just a story, but the foundational story.
Updating this story for today’s viewers starts with the actors. It’s actually easier to list who isn’t in the film. I wanted to include everyone, but we literally didn’t have enough space on stage for such a talented group!
The film boasts a fantastic cast including Damon, Hathaway, Holland, Theron, Pattinson, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Himesh Patel, Elliot Page, Mia Goth, and Samantha Morton, among others. Titled The Odyssey, the movie is set to hit theaters on July 17, 2026, distributed by Universal Pictures.
