Gareth Evans, the director known for the critically acclaimed action films The Raid and The Raid 2, has revealed the first footage from his remake of a classic 1960s crime thriller. Surprisingly, Evans, who recently directed the Netflix action movie Havoc with Tom Hardy, shared this sneak peek. The remake stars Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù, best known for Gangs of London, as a hitman forced to go on the run, and yes, the footage shows him skillfully using dual pistols.
Naomi Ackie is remaking a celebrated 1967 Japanese crime film about the yakuza. The new version, starring Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù as Colt, will closely follow the original story. A first trailer shown at CinemaCon takes viewers to 1970s Detroit, where Colt is seen violently eliminating a target. However, when his boss, played by Tim Roth, refuses to pay, Colt finds himself hunted by a team of hitmen led by Jack Reynor.
Gareth Evans, known for the intense action in The Raid, brings a more stylish approach to his new film, A Colt Is My Passport. According to DiscussingFilm, parts of the movie are filmed in black and white as a nod to the original, and one particularly striking scene turns the entire screen red, leaving only the person who’s been shot in color.
A particularly intense fight happens when Colt stabs someone’s arm with a bayonet, then cleverly uses that same weapon against the attacker to hit someone behind them. With A Colt Is My Passport, Evans is clearly aiming for even more shocking and brutal action than he’s known for in films like The Raid.
