In the past ten years, podcasts and livestreams where people play games together—often called “actual play”—have become incredibly popular. There are tons of great options, from famous Dungeons & Dragons shows like Critical Role to networks like The Glass Cannon that offer a wide variety of games. Many of these shows have even teamed up with the companies that make the games. However, Wizards of the Coast, the creators of Dungeons & Dragons, recently announced they’re getting into the actual play game themselves with a new official series.
Variety recently announced that Dungeons & Dragons is creating its own live-play series. Unlike many similar shows that began as podcasts, this new series, called Dungeon Masters, is designed as a TV show, though it will air on YouTube instead of traditional television or streaming services. The series features a well-known cast, including Neil Newbon and Devore Wilde from Baldur’s Gate 3. Importantly, because the show is officially approved by D&D, it will give fans a sneak peek at upcoming content before it’s officially released.
New D&D Series Dungeon Masters To Show Off Ravenloft: The Horrors Within Early
The new Dungeons & Dragons sourcebook, Ravenloft: The Horrors Within, is now available for pre-order. It includes updated horror-themed character options, powerful villains, and ready-to-play adventures. Given the popularity of the Curse of Strahd campaign and the demand for more horror in D&D, Wizards of the Coast is clearly promoting this release heavily. In fact, the first official campaign for the Dungeons & Dragons team will be set in Ravenloft, using content from the upcoming book before it’s even released.
Although Ravenloft: The Horrors Within isn’t officially released until June 16th (with early access for D&D Beyond subscribers), D&D fans can see a preview even sooner. Dungeon Masters will stream on YouTube April 22nd at 9:30 PM ET, giving everyone a look at the new horror content over two months before the book is released.
We don’t have a full list of what will be shown, but one actor hinted that their character will be a Grave Domain Cleric – one of the new character options coming in The Horrors Within. It’s likely the other characters will also feature new subclasses from the upcoming book. This will give us a sneak peek at how those subclasses evolved from the playtest versions and let us see them used in a live campaign. You can find the official trailer for the series in the Wizards of the Coast post below.

The upcoming showcase of new D&D rules will feature a well-known group of players and creators. Jasmine Bhullar, popular from Dimension 20, will be the Dungeon Master, and she’ll be joined by players Mayanna Berrin, Christian Navarro, Neil Newbon, and Devora Wilde. Currently, it’s unknown if the series will also be available as an audio-only version for those who prefer the original podcast style.
The first two episodes of Dungeon Masters will premiere on April 22nd, and new episodes will be released every week. You can watch them on the official Dungeons & Dragons YouTube channel, which has hosted similar shows before.
Hey, wouldn’t it be awesome if Wizards of the Coast did an official D&D actual play series where they showed off some stuff that hasn’t come out yet? I’d love to see that! What do you guys think? Let’s chat about it over on the ComicBook Forum!
