Emmerdale favourite quits while on maternity leave – with “no plans to return” to ITV soap

Georgia Jay, who played a character on the TV show Emmerdale, has left after a year. Her last episodes have already been broadcast.

Steph Miligan, played by the actress, joined the ITV soap in November 2024 and went on maternity leave in August of last year.

While living in the village, Steph learned a shocking family secret: her biological father wasn’t Caleb, but her grandfather, Anthony. Her parents are Caleb William Ash and Ruby Cordingly.

Caleb and Ruby attempted to keep it a secret, but the disturbing truth came out after Ruby killed her father. Steph, believing she resembled her mother’s abuser, sought cosmetic surgery to alter her appearance.

Honestly, things were just getting too much for my character. Finding out Ross had been with Manpreet was the final straw, and I needed to escape the drama. So, I decided to head off on a retreat to Rome – a complete change of scenery seemed like the only way to cope with everything that was happening.

Although the possibility of Jay returning to the show was left open, The Sun reports she doesn’t plan to come back.

According to a source, Georgia enjoyed her time on Emmerdale, but she doesn’t intend to come back. She’s currently prioritizing being a mother and enjoying that role.

She’s definitely interested in new projects, but she isn’t able to commit to a regular, full-time role in a soap opera right now.

An Emmerdale spokesperson declined to comment when approached by TopMob.

She hinted at a possible return to the show with a subtle photo. The picture shows Jay sitting in a salon chair, seemingly about to read a script with the text hidden, leading fans to believe she might be preparing for future episodes of Emmerdale.

One viewer joked that the scene felt like it belonged in the Emmerdale script, and another expressed their excitement about seeing the actor return to the show.
