For decades, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has been considered one of the greatest games ever made. It’s a beloved action-adventure title, and with rumors of a remake possibly coming to the Switch 2, fans are getting hopeful. If you’ve been thinking about revisiting this classic, now is a great time, as there are plenty of ways to play it.
A YouTube creator named SoulsMidknight recently shared a really interesting and unusual way to play Ocarina of Time, and it’s sure to impress players who have loved the game for years.
What Is Zelda: Demon’s Quest?
It’s A Worthwhile Adventure
Demon’s Quest is a fan-made modification of Ocarina of Time created by thinedave and Aegiker. It’s essentially a challenging ‘hard mode,’ but it significantly changes the gameplay. Players will face new obstacles like degrading shields, a stamina system, increased enemy damage, and a more realistic potion system where you don’t have temporary invincibility.
Okay, so they’ve added a really cool perfect block – it doesn’t cost any stamina or damage your gear, which is awesome! They’ve also leaned hard into that Souls-like feel, adding a proper stat system and, instead of being able to save whenever, you’ve got to hit save points. It feels a lot more strategic now.
To make things even worse, when you die, you lose a heart container – though you can sometimes get it back by finding fairies. There’s also a “Hero Mode” where lost heart containers aren’t restored. And if you run out of heart containers completely, the game is over. It definitely adds some real tension!
Aside from some minor adjustments, the gameplay is largely the same as before. Demon’s Quest does improve the combat, making it feel more powerful, particularly when facing bosses. If you’re looking for a challenge to test your skills, this is a great time to play.
This Is The Ultimate Zelda Challenge
Try Your Luck
Demon’s Quest is known as a particularly challenging modification of the game Ocarina of Time, often compared to other difficult mods like Ultimate Trial. It takes inspiration from various action-adventure games, even borrowing elements commonly found in titles from From Software, such as the Souls series.
Players can also spice things up with randomizers or by playing as the “Master of Time.” A popular challenge is completing the game with only three hearts, which players set for themselves and can be done in many different versions. Over the years, fans have come up with countless creative and difficult ways to play.
No matter how you prefer to play, the original Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is always a solid choice. You can easily find it on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 as part of the Nintendo Classics collection, and physical copies for older consoles are still available. The 3DS remake is also excellent and a personal favorite way to experience the game.
