Dungeon Crawler Carl Vol. 1 Reveals First Look Preview

If you haven’t discovered Dungeon Crawler Carl yet, the Webtoon series and the new graphic novel from Vault Comics are great ways to get introduced to the story, instead of starting with the original novels. The graphic novel also offers a detailed preview, letting you meet the main characters, Carl and Princess Donut, and explore their world.

The preview shows Carl and Princess Donut have a complicated relationship – they both love and annoy each other. This is because Princess Donut used to belong to Carl’s ex-girlfriend, and he’s now looking after her. Even though she knows he’s caring for her, she often causes him trouble. In fact, her recent escape through a window and up a tree might have actually saved his life, because shortly after, he witnesses everyone in his building and neighborhood disappearing in an instant.
The only real surprise is Mrs. Parsons, who quickly goes from sharing her opinions about Carl’s ex-girlfriend to becoming a severed head. This leaves Carl with a difficult decision: stay where he is and suffer the same fate as everyone else, or venture down a strange staircase to a deeper level of the World Dungeon and fight to survive. Carl chooses, but even in this bizarre situation, Princess Donut isn’t willing to help. You can find more details about the graphic novel, Dungeon Crawler Carl, in the official description below.

Get ready for the end of the world… on TV! What’s worse than a breakup? Being trapped in a cruel alien game show with your ex’s cat! Follow Carl and Princess Donut as they attempt to survive the apocalypse, or at least make it through a dangerous, fantasy dungeon. Featuring dynamic artwork by Laurel Pursuit, this story brings thrilling battles to life as Carl fights his way through, even if he’s wearing heart-covered underwear!

The series balances its darker moments with the adorable, innocent look of its main character, Princess Donut. A lot of care and work went into crafting a story and style that would appeal to both WEBTOON fans and those who enjoy DCC, and the creators consulted author Matt Dinniman on every detail – from character designs to the overall story.
We’re thrilled to bring the incredible world of the DUNGEON CRAWLER CARL webcomic to life as a brand new graphic novel series! Get ready, Crawler, because you’re entering the dungeon now. Your survival isn’t guaranteed, but keeping you entertained definitely is.
Dungeon Crawler Carl, Vol. 1 is up for pre-order now and will release on May 19, 2026.
