Law & Order SVU has been renewed for another run, NBC has confirmed.
As a huge TV fan, I was thrilled to hear that my favorite crime drama is coming back next fall for its 28th season! It’s incredible to think it’s been on the air for so long – it actually became the longest-running primetime drama back in 2019 with its 21st season, and it’s still going strong!
According to Deadline, season 28 isn’t a full renewal, but rather the second half of a two-season deal NBC originally announced in May 2025 – something the network hadn’t revealed until now.
This renewal announcement follows closely after NBC and Peacock cancelled another ‘Law & Order’ show, ‘Organized Crime,’ after it ran for five seasons.
The fate of the original Law & Order series, currently airing its 25th season, is still unknown.

Although the official cast list for Law & Order: SVU hasn’t been released yet, we anticipate that Mariska Hargitay, Ice-T, Kelli Giddish, Peter Scanavino, Aimé Donna Kelly, and Kevin Kane will all be back for the new season.
Ice-T hinted at returning for another season of the show in a video he posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. He mentioned that because he’s appearing in the final three episodes of season 27, his character, Fin, will still be alive when season 28 begins.
Law & Order: SVU is in its twenty-seventh season on NBC. The last episode will air on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 9 PM Eastern Time.
