Ever since Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth came out in 2024, fans have been anticipating the last game in the remake series, as well as news about future Final Fantasy titles. While we wait, a new mobile Final Fantasy game is also on the horizon. Now, Square Enix has announced another new Final Fantasy game, scheduled for release in 2026. This game revisits the world of Midgar and Final Fantasy 7, but it’s a different kind of experience than fans might be expecting.
Square Enix hasn’t announced a release date for the third Final Fantasy 7 Remake game yet. However, fans of Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, and the rest of the crew have something new to look forward to this year: a cooperative board game set during a key moment in the Midgar story. Final Fantasy 7: Ascend the Shinra Tower is a unique take on the classic Jenga game. It’s currently available for pre-order in the Japanese Square Enix eShop and will be released on November 6th. This is the second Final Fantasy board game announced this year, following Final Fantasy: The Board Game which was revealed in February. If you enjoy tabletop games and Final Fantasy, 2024 promises to be a great year for fans.
Final Fantasy 7: Ascend the Shinra Tower Is a Jenga-Style Twist on the Fight to Save Midgar

The upcoming Final Fantasy 7 board game is being made with Archlight Games. It will play much like their game Cat and the Tower, where players cooperate to build and climb an increasingly wobbly tower. Final Fantasy 7: Ascend the Shinra Tower uses that same cooperative gameplay, but features characters and settings from the popular Final Fantasy 7 video game instead of a cat trying to reach for the stars.
Okay, so in this game, we’re all working together to build the Shinra building, block by block. The tricky part is, the blocks are different heights, so the building gets wobbly as it goes up! We have to communicate and work as a team to keep it from falling over while we try to get Cloud to the top. Basically, we win if we can get Cloud up to the 8th floor of the Shinra building before the whole thing crashes down!

The Ascend the Shinra Tower board game includes building pieces to create the iconic Shinra tower, along with charming wooden figures of beloved characters. Square Enix has previewed figures of Cloud, Tifa, Jessie, Aerith, Sephiroth, and several recognizable Shinra enemies. The game contains 20 floor tiles, 54 wall tiles, 24 character pieces, and 24 action cards to add variety to gameplay.
The new game, Final Fantasy 7: Ascend the Shinra Tower, should take players between 15 and 30 minutes to complete. It supports 1 to 5 players. It’s currently priced at 4,400 Yen in the Japanese online store, which is about $27. While a Western release date hasn’t been announced, the game will launch in Japan on November 6th.
