Taylor Dearden recently discussed with ScreenRant’s Grant Hermanns what Mel’s testimony might involve in the upcoming third season, and what she’d like to see happen with the character. Here’s what they talked about:

The season ends with Mel unexpectedly being called back for the deposition – something that’s been looming over her all season. What were you thinking when you realized that was going to happen, and can you give us a hint about where that storyline is headed?

I was really intrigued by what the actress had to say about Mel’s future. She’s hoping the writers will really challenge the character, maybe throw her into a completely new environment like a courtroom. She feels it would be a fantastic opportunity to stretch her own acting abilities, and honestly, I couldn’t agree more. Seeing Mel outside of her usual world would be a really compelling direction for the show.

I’m not revealing any details because we haven’t been told anything. I’m free to express my own hopes, and I’d really like to see a deposition happen. I think it would be fascinating to see Mel in that kind of intense, unfamiliar legal setting – there’s a lot of performance involved in legal proceedings. It’s almost like a stage show, and I imagine Mel would get caught up in it. I’d love to film a scene where a deposition takes place.

She pointed out that the deposition is happening in a hospital boardroom, which creates a striking contrast with the intense activity usually found in the emergency room.

Even though most of the show is set in a hospital, my character is the only one who’s actually left the show so far, across both seasons. Santos has also departed now, but I was the first one to leave, and then there was the karaoke scene in the second season. The deposition takes place in a conference room within the hospital. I think it would be really compelling dramatically to cut between scenes in the busy emergency room and the more formal, wood-paneled deposition room, making the viewer question what’s causing the character the most stress. I’m optimistic about how it will all play out.

She finished by expressing her excitement about the scene appearing in the next season, and shared her hopeful outlook as an actress.

I was really excited when I heard the second season would include a deposition scene – I immediately thought, ‘That’s going to be fun!’ But then I realized it might not happen, which was a bit disappointing. I’m still hoping we get to film one, and I’m prepared to really embrace the dramatic acting opportunity if we do.

Although the second season concluded with a quieter, more heartfelt ending, the tension surrounding Mel’s situation is still very strong. Season three is set to begin four months later, in November, and production is scheduled to start this June.

The upcoming third season of The Pitt will have lasting consequences, especially regarding Mel’s role. The season will likely start with a deposition, and because the show unfolds in real-time, this will create significant drama and suspense. While the deposition won’t likely take up the whole season, a key question is what happens to Mel after it’s over.
