New details have emerged in Anne Burrell’s death investigation.
Oh my heart, I can hardly believe it! The radiant star of my favorite cooking channel, who brought joy and culinary expertise into countless homes, tragically took her own life at the tender age of 55 on June 17. The New York City Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed this devastating news to NBC News, revealing that she succumbed to an acute overdose from a mix of diphenhydramine, ethanol, cetirizine, and amphetamine. I’m still in shock and struggling to comprehend the loss; her presence will be deeply missed in the kitchens of food enthusiasts everywhere.
The news follows confirmation from the New York Police Department to NBC News that they attended a call at Burrell’s residence due to reports of an “unconscious and unresponsive 55-year-old woman” and suspected cardiac arrest. Upon arrival, emergency medical services sadly declared her deceased on the spot.
Following the sad passing of the host from ‘Worst Cooks in America’, her family members, which include her husband Stuart Claxton, stepson Javier, mother Marlene, and sister Jane, paid a heartfelt tribute to honor the impact Burrell had on their family and beyond.
According to a statement released by the family to TopMob News, Anne was cherished as a wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend. Her smile made every space she stepped into brighter. Beyond those close to her, Anne’s light reached millions worldwide. Even though she is gone, her warmth, vivaciousness, and endless love continue to live on.
In fact, over the span of two decades, Burrell managed to win the affection of countless individuals – including supermodel Gigi Hadid, who had the pleasure of collaborating with him during her 2023 stint on “Beat Bobby Flay.
Gigi expressed her deep sadness on an Instagram story on June 17, posting a photo of her and Anne Burrell from their time together on the show. As a devoted admirer, spending this special day with her had been a cherished wish fulfilled,” Gigi wrote.
As a die-hard admirer, I can’t help but yearn for another chance to witness her brilliance once more. She was nothing short of extraordinary. May you find eternal peace, Legend.
During her tenure at the Food Network, Burrell presented shows like “Worst Cooks in America” and “Secrets of a Restaurant Chef“, while also making numerous guest appearances on various other programs.
After her demise, the network acknowledged her as an “extraordinary individual and gifted chef,” highlighting her skills in teaching, competing, and expressing the significance of food in her life, as well as the pleasure a delightful meal could offer.
Beyond her love for cooking, Burrell recently explored improvisational arts as well. She attended courses at New York’s Second City Training Center and even performed with the group the evening preceding her unfortunate demise.
Our hearts are heavy following the tragic passing of Anne Burrell, who was not just a friend but also one of our cherished students,” Second City shared in a statement with TopMob News. “Her energy and spirit will be deeply missed within our Second City New York Training Center family.
The collective remarked, ‘Anne radiated positivity, courage, and a consistently open-minded attitude. Her energy was infectious, her impact lasting. Our sympathies are extended to Anne’s family and dear ones.’
