Maren Morris Details Her “F–ked Up” First Relationship With a Woman

The bones were not good in Maren Morrisfirst relationship with a woman.

The country singer shared her experience of coming to terms with her bisexuality after publicly coming out in 2024, jokingly noting that it hasn’t been a long process following a difficult event.

In a TikTok video posted on April 15th, Maren explained she was casually dating someone and wasn’t interested in a serious relationship. She said she doesn’t have the energy for that right now, and she made that clear upfront. The other person said she understood and was okay with that.

Although she was married to musician Ryan Hurd from 2018 until 2024, the 36-year-old stated that things changed as their relationship continued and that wasn’t what happened.

Maren explained that after things began to unravel, she faced dishonesty, threats against her good name, and what felt like strong-arm tactics. She described the situation as deeply upsetting, especially since it was her first time dealing with something like that.

Maren also mentioned that friends within the lesbian community told her what happened to her was actually quite common.

Her friends warned her that getting involved with women would likely cause problems. They told her, ‘We’ve all experienced this – you just need to persevere.’

Okay, so Maren Morris, our queen, just gets it, you know? Being a mom to little Hayes is her world, of course, but she’s said she’s genuinely happy rocking the solo life right now. And honestly? She’s so self-aware! She even captioned a video about it ‘bi trauma’ – like, she’s hilarious and real all at once. It just makes you love her even more, doesn’t it?

Maren has faced some difficulties while dating after her divorce. She recently shared that she’s found it hard to figure out when a friendship might turn into something more romantic.

Maren shared on the U Up? podcast that she quickly forms deep connections with women. “I can connect with any woman within a couple of minutes,” she said. “We’ll be sharing personal stories about our pasts—like childhood memories or experiences with bullying—very quickly. It would take years to reach that level of vulnerability with a man.”

She explained that she sometimes develops feelings for a woman they’re friends with, and then senses that the woman might be interested in kissing her.

The Grammy-winning artist explained that it can be challenging to distinguish between romantic feelings and friendship, noting that women often form strong connections very quickly, which she sees as a wonderful quality.

The Dance Moms alum didn’t give it a second thought when she came out in a 2021 Instagram story.

She explained to People magazine in October 2023 that she came out at age 17, but didn’t realize how significant that decision was at the time. She also said she didn’t understand why it would be frightening.

She explained that while she received a lot of support and acceptance, she also faced negativity and lost some things along the way – including people and fans. But she doesn’t regret it, saying she’s staying true to herself, and that’s what matters most.

While the “Flowers” singer was never a big fan of labels, she came out as pansexual in 2016.

She shared with Variety in October 2016 that she’d spent her life unsure about her gender and sexuality. She particularly disliked the label ‘bisexual,’ feeling it was too limiting. She explained that she doesn’t focus on whether someone is male or female.

She also explained that she never saw her nipple pasties as sexual, noting she became aware of her sexuality around the fifth or sixth grade. Her first romantic relationship was with a girl.

Okay, so for Matt, telling his family he was gay? It wasn’t just a moment, it was everything. It felt like his whole life shifted, like before and after. His family is pretty conservative and Christian, and honestly, I was SO nervous for him, but it really did feel like the start of a brand new chapter for him. I’ve been following his journey for a while now, and this was HUGE.

Sharing the news with his family was a major turning point, according to actor Matt Bomer, who is married to Simon Halls and has three children. He previously told OUT Magazine that he sees his life as clearly divided into ‘before’ and ‘after’ telling his parents, with the choices he made and the life he lived being drastically different on either side of that moment.

The singer of “Good Luck, Babe!” shared that she doesn’t always feel as self-assured as she appears, and growing up in the Midwest significantly shaped her personality.

She explained to Rolling Stone that she used to be afraid of openly gay men, because that’s how she was raised. She later realized that the dislike often stems from the fact that their expressions of personality are seen as feminine, and society often dislikes women. She described having a moment of clarity, realizing how deeply rooted the issue was.

She explained that she’s had to challenge a lot of previously held beliefs, and she’s still figuring things out, which is why she sometimes feels uneasy about being gay. She admits she doesn’t understand why it’s such a struggle for her – it shouldn’t be – but recognizes she needs to come to terms with her feelings.

Former Bachelorette contestant revealed on The View that she is engaged to comedian Robby Hoffman, whom she married in January 2025.

She revealed in August 2023 that she had been keeping something private: she’s dating a woman, and felt it was a significant thing to share because of that.

She explained that she’d always had a feeling deep down, but it gradually became more noticeable. She hadn’t realized she should listen to it, and admitting that felt embarrassing at first. She had to understand where that shame was coming from and work through it.

The actress known for her role in Mean Girls publicly came out as a lesbian in January 2024 during an appearance on Saturday Night Live, after previously identifying as bisexual. Her friends were supportive of her decision to share this with the public.

You know, it really hit me a while back – I suddenly found myself surrounded by incredible people who identified as nonbinary, trans, or lesbian. Being with them just felt good. I realized I was genuinely happy, and honestly, it made me feel comfortable enough to explore my own identity and even think, ‘Maybe I identify as a lesbian too!’ It was a really affirming experience.

The former late-night host officially came out as queer on the last day of Pride month in 2024.

She announced on Instagram in June 2024, while wearing a shirt that said “Queer,” that she was coming out – a move she joked no one would be surprised by, as she made the announcement on the last day of Pride Month.

She encouraged the young children, saying she was proud of them and herself. She then jokingly added that she looked forward to facing new challenges and potential prejudice in the future!

The former Disney Channel star was hesitant to publicly share that she is queer before she came out.

She explained to Gay Times in May 2021 that she’d subtly suggested she wasn’t straight for years, but was hesitant to be direct. She mentioned a lyric video she released last year for her song ‘We Belong,’ which featured animated drawings of couples falling in love. She found it strange because the video only showed heterosexual couples.

After the song was released, many people interpreted it as a celebration of LGBTQ+ identity, and I suddenly felt like people thought I was falsely implying a connection to the community. I addressed it on Instagram Live, explaining that I identify as queer—something I hadn’t explicitly said before—and that I want my music to reflect who I truly am.

The “Heart Attack” singer came out as nonbinary in a 2021 Instagram post.

Honestly, every day feels like a gift, another chance to just be me, you know? It’s crazy to think I’ve basically grown up with all of you watching. You’ve seen everything – the highs, the lows, all the messy bits in between. It wasn’t just my life, though. I always felt like I was living it for all of you, for everyone on the other side of the camera. It’s like we’ve all been on this journey together!

I’m excited to share an important part of my personal journey with you all. I’m non-binary and will be using they/them pronouns going forward, though I now use she/her pronouns. This decision comes after a lot of personal growth and self-discovery. I’m still learning about myself, and I don’t consider myself an expert on this topic. Sharing this feels very vulnerable, but it’s something I wanted to do.

Although she’s been with singer Hayley Kiyoko since 2018, she didn’t publicly share that she was in a same-sex relationship until four years later. While it felt strange at first when everyone learned about it, she realized how powerful it was to be open about her relationship.

She explained that the impact of her story extended far beyond her own life and relationship. Knowing that it helped others feel comfortable and confident in their own relationships was more important than any personal fear she had. She found it incredibly humbling to see the positive effect something as natural as falling in love could have, as reflected in the comments she received.

Oh my gosh, it feels like yesterday! I remember when Troye finally shared his story with the world on YouTube – it was so brave. He’d actually come out to his family years before, when he was only fifteen, but posting that video felt huge. He’s talked about how it happened at a really important time in his life, like everything just aligned and he had to share it. It was amazing to watch, honestly, and I’ve been a fan ever since!

He explained to People magazine in February 2022 that as he was finalizing his record deal, it was very important to him to control his own public image. He didn’t want anyone else dictating how he came out, and he was eager to begin living openly, exploring gay nightlife, and writing authentic love songs based on his own experiences.

Selling Sunset’s Chrishell Stause, who is married to G Flip, emphasizes the need to make self-care a priority.

Chrishell, who started dating the Australian singer in 2022, explained to TopMob News that true love means prioritizing your partner’s happiness, even if it conflicts with your own views. She emphasized the importance of living life on your own terms, saying, “Don’t change yourself to fit what others want for you – you only get one life.”

This TikTok creator, who is openly gay and attended an all-boys school, uses his account to inspire others to embrace their true selves.

Okay, so Chris said this in an interview, and honestly, it just gets me. He basically admitted people already have ideas about who he is, and it’s probably…complicated, depending on who’s listening. But he sees having this platform – like, being able to talk directly to us – as a way to challenge those assumptions and just…be normal. It’s like he wants to show everyone there’s nothing to be afraid of, and that’s amazing. He’s actively trying to dismantle the weirdness people project onto him, and I’m so here for it!
