‘Project Hail Mary’ Extends IMAX Run and Delays Streaming Debut

Even though it’s still early in 2026, Project Hail Mary directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller is already a huge hit. The movie has received excellent reviews – 94% positive on Rotten Tomatoes – and has earned over $500 million worldwide after just a month in cinemas. With the peak summer blockbuster season still ahead, the film continues to be shown in large formats like IMAX, and Chris Miller recently shared exciting news about IMAX screenings on Twitter. However, he also announced some less positive news regarding streaming availability.

As a huge fan of Project Hail Mary, I was thrilled to hear it’s coming back to IMAX for a week starting this weekend! It’s a chance to see it on a truly massive screen, which is how a movie like that should be seen. The only downside is that this means we’ll have to wait a little longer for it to hit Prime Video. Still, I think it’s worth it to experience it in IMAX if you can!

Great news for movie fans! MGM has decided to keep PROJECT HAIL MARY in theaters for a while longer, so it won’t be available to stream just yet. They really want everyone to see it the way it was meant to be – on the big screen! Starting this weekend, it’s returning to IMAX for one week only, so grab your friends and family and head to a theater now – it’s best enjoyed together.

Miller has confirmed the movie won’t be available on Prime Video as originally planned, but it’s unclear when it will arrive. There’s also no news yet about when the movie will be available to rent or buy digitally or on DVD/Blu-ray. Since the movie will come to Prime Video after those releases, it could be just a week after the original date, or much further down the line.

With its current earnings, Project Hail Mary is predicted to exceed $600 million, making it Ryan Gosling’s second-highest-grossing film after 2023’s Barbie, which earned over $1.4 billion. Another blockbuster of that size is unlikely for him in the near future. However, he’s set to star in Star Wars: Starfighter in 2027. Considering four out of the last five Star Wars films each made over $1 billion, Starfighter has a strong chance of reaching that same level of success. The upcoming release of Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu next month will offer a good preview of how audiences might respond to Gosling’s film.
