Hollywood is full of movies based on video games, so it wasn’t surprising when a film adaptation of the hugely popular Call of Duty franchise was announced.
Paramount has announced that the movie based on the popular games will hit theaters on June 30, 2028. The release date was revealed at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.
Peter Berg, the director of films like Lone Survivor and Deepwater Horizon, is helming the new movie. The screenplay is written by Taylor Sheridan, who’s famous for creating popular TV series such as Yellowstone, Tulsa King, and Landman.

In a pre-recorded video message, Berg explained that he and Sheridan have strong ties to the special operations community and are committed to making the film as realistic as possible.
We don’t have many details about the story yet, but it will be fascinating to see how the creators adapt this action-packed game series into a movie.
So far, the studio is keeping tight-lipped about who’s going to be in this movie, which is a little frustrating! But don’t worry, I’m definitely keeping an ear to the ground and will let you know as soon as any casting announcements are made. I’m hoping for some really great choices!

News about Sheridan and Berg collaborating on the film surfaced last October. However, the idea of a Call of Duty movie goes back to 2015, and a script was actually written before the project was put on hold in 2020.
Call of Duty first came out in 2003, and since then it’s grown into a huge worldwide success, becoming one of the best-selling video game series ever.
The main Call of Duty series includes over 20 games, and there are also many spin-off titles. The latest installment, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, came out in 2025, giving developers plenty of existing content to work with.
Call of Duty will be released in cinemas on 30 June 2028.
