Matt Gatiss is a well-known actor and stage performer, especially recognized for his successful collaborations with Steven Moffat. They’re famous for a popular modern take on a classic story. Gatiss has appeared in numerous films and television shows since then, and his latest project recently received some exciting news.
The popular crime series first aired in July 2025 and was quickly praised by critics. It had already been renewed for a second season before the first season even finished, and proved to be a hit on UKTV’s U&alibi channel. Now, less than a year later, a first look at the new season has been released, with plans to launch it this summer.
What Happens In Bookish Season 2?
I just saw the new teaser and I’m so excited! It gives us a little peek at the next mystery Book is working on, and it’s great to see so many familiar faces returning. Polly Walker is back as Trottie Book, of course, and we’ll be seeing Connor Finch as Jack Blunt again, along with Elliot Levey as Inspector Bliss, Jonas Nay as Felix, Blake Harrison as Sergeant Morris, and Buket Kömür as Nora. I can’t wait!
Season 2 of Bookish will bring together cast members from Sherlock. Rupert Graves, who played Inspector Lestrade, will appear alongside Mark Gatiss, who played Mycroft Holmes, marking a reunion for the two actors who previously worked together on the popular series.
I’m so excited about the guest stars they’ve lined up for Season 2! We’re going to see Jason Watkins playing Harold Sneed, and Miranda Richardson as Duchess Alberta – brilliant casting! Plus, Allan Corduner is joining as Maxie Kleinmann, and I’m really intrigued by Simon Callow’s mysterious character, ‘E’. Claire Skinner as Mrs. Calthrop should be fantastic, and I’m thrilled to see Youssef Kerkour as Yusuf too. What a lineup!
Season 2 follows Book as he delves into the world of spiritualism while investigating a puzzling case involving medium Harold Sneed.
Just off Savile Row, Bliss enlists Book’s help with a strange murder at a men’s clothing shop. An elderly tailor, Maxie Kleinmann, insists he’s the killer, but the clues don’t add up, suggesting a much more complicated and disturbing situation.
Book and Jack are dispatched to the picturesque German village of Würl by a shadowy figure known only as ‘E’ to stop a Duchess from stealing something during the Christmas season. But the holiday cheer quickly vanishes when they stumble upon dangerous secrets—both from their own pasts and within the walls of a foreboding castle filled with people who could be killers.
Bookish Season 1 Was Divisive
I have to say, Bookish, which first hit screens on U&alibi in July 2025, was a genuine hit. U&alibi told us it was their second-biggest launch ever – a pretty incredible start! It eventually made its way to U.S. audiences via PBS on January 11, 2026, and the good news is, we can expect another season in 2026. Definitely one to watch if you’re a fan of crime dramas.
The new crime series, inspired by the works of Arthur Conan Doyle and other classic authors, has received perfect scores from critics. Rotten Tomatoes reports a 100% rating based on 14 reviews, with many praising its blend of classic detective tropes and a fresh, modern feel, calling it a ‘lovely’ watch.
Despite initial expectations, the crime series hasn’t been a hit with viewers so far, receiving a modest 64% approval rating based on early reviews.
Bookish returns for Season 2 in 2026 on U&alibi.
