ICYMI: 8 Huge Movies That Were Officially Announced This Week, Ranked by Hype Level

As a huge movie fan, I was following CinemaCon 2026 closely, and wow, it did not disappoint! The event just wrapped up its four days at Caesars Palace in Vegas, and it was packed with exciting news about all the films coming out this year. It’s basically the biggest get-together for movie theaters, and the studios really use it to show everyone what they’ve got. We got a ton of exclusive looks – Disney, Warner Bros., Paramount, and Sony all took the stage. They showed off trailers and footage, and really emphasized that going to the cinema is still a great experience. The biggest reveals for me were getting our first glimpse of Robert Downey Jr. as part of the new Avengers: Doomsday movie, and seeing a sneak peek from Spider-Man: Brand New Day – seriously, it looked amazing!

The convention wasn’t just about showing off new trailers; it’s where studios officially announced projects that had been whispered about for months. This year, the big trend was building on popular existing franchises and bringing back old favorites, with studios already planning releases all the way out to 2028.

8) Pippi Longstocking

StudioCanal, known for the Paddington films, revealed plans for a new live-action Pippi Longstocking movie at CinemaCon 2026. The film will reimagine the classic character created by Astrid Lindgren for today’s audiences. While details about the director and actors haven’t been announced yet, StudioCanal hopes to launch a successful, long-running movie series based on the popular story.

7) The Flood

Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have announced that The Flood will hit theaters on August 11, 2028. The film will be written and directed by Zach Cregger, who recently gained acclaim for his movies Barbarian and the Oscar-winning Weapons, making this a project to watch. Amblin Entertainment, and legendary producer Steven Spielberg, are also involved. The Flood is a science-fiction thriller set on a space station, representing a new direction for Cregger, moving from realistic horror to suspenseful, outer-space storytelling.

6) Paddington 4

StudioCanal has officially confirmed a fourth Paddington movie is in the works, continuing a hugely successful franchise that has earned over $700 million worldwide. The new film will bring Paddington back to the UK, continuing the story from Paddington in Peru. Ben Whishaw will return to voice the charming bear, and the decision to make another film proves how consistently popular and critically acclaimed the Paddington movies are. Fans can expect the same delightful visuals and heartwarming humor that have made the series a favorite for years to come.

5) Snoop Dogg Biopic

Universal Pictures announced at Cinemacon 2026 that a Snoop Dogg biopic is officially in the works, slated for release in 2027. Snoop Dogg himself surprised the Las Vegas audience with a performance of his hit song, “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” and then introduced the team behind the movie, titled Snoop. Director Craig Brewer, known for his work with music-based stories, will lead the R-rated film, charting the rapper’s journey from his beginnings in Long Beach to worldwide fame. Rising actor Jonathan Daviss will play Snoop Dogg, and the production has the complete support of Death Row Records, promising a raw and honest look at the 1990s hip-hop scene.

4) World War Z Sequel

Paramount Pictures is bringing a sequel to World War Z back to life, more than ten years after the first film was a huge success in theaters. The original movie, released in 2013, is still the highest-grossing zombie film ever, earning $540 million worldwide. Despite its success, previous efforts to create a franchise fell apart due to money and scheduling issues. This revival is part of Paramount’s plan to leverage well-known titles following its merger with Skydance Media. It’s currently unclear if Brad Pitt will reprise his leading role or if he’ll only be involved as a producer through his company, Plan B Entertainment.

3) Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest

At CinemaCon, Warner Bros. announced they’re making a movie based on the world of Game of Thrones, titled Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest. This marks a big change for the series, moving the story from HBO to movie theaters worldwide. The script is being written by Beau Willimon, known for creating complex and morally gray characters. The film will be based on George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood and will tell the story of Aegon I Targaryen’s invasion of Westeros. Warner Bros. clearly believes the Game of Thrones universe has the potential to be a major blockbuster franchise, competing with popular superhero and sci-fi films.

2) Bloodborne

Sony Pictures is adding another video game adaptation to its growing list, this time with an R-rated animated movie based on the popular 2015 game Bloodborne. The game, known for its challenging gameplay and dark, gothic world, has a very dedicated fanbase, so the announcement of a film adaptation is huge news for gamers. The project is being funded with Lyrical Media and produced by Jacksepticeye (Seán McLoughlin), who promises the movie will capture the game’s intense and unsettling atmosphere. By using animation, the filmmakers can accurately bring the game’s terrifying creatures and nightmarish setting to life without being limited by budget concerns. Sony has also confirmed the movie will be rated R, meaning it won’t shy away from the violent combat and mature themes that define the game’s story.

1) Top Gun 3

As a huge film fan, I was thrilled to hear Paramount officially greenlit Top Gun 3! The last movie was such a massive critical and commercial success that it really changed how studios look at sequels – it was clear they’d be making another one. Apparently, the script is already coming along nicely, with Jerry Bruckheimer – the original producer – leading the charge. Of course, it’ll center around Tom Cruise as Maverick, and it sounds like we’ll see him tackling a new set of challenges in a modern military world. Knowing Tom’s commitment to doing his own stunts and filming inside the cockpit, I’m expecting this one to be even more visually stunning and immersive than before. It’s going to be incredible!
