In the next few years, the X-Men will officially join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and fans are eagerly speculating about who will play these famous mutant characters. Recent reports suggest that Odessa A’Zion, known for her roles in I Love LA and Marty Supreme, is a potential candidate to play Rogue, and Peter Claffey, who appeared in Game of Thrones: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, is being considered for the role of Beast.
So far, fans have generally reacted positively to the actors reportedly being cast in the new X-Men movie. The main exception is Louis Claffey, who has received some criticism for being cast as Beast. It’s not that fans don’t want to see him in the film, they just believe he’d be a better fit for a different role.
MCU X-Men Has A Perfect Colossus (So Why Aren’t They Casting Him?)

Peter Claffey is an actor originally from Portumna, County Galway, Ireland. Standing at 6 feet 5 inches, he was a gifted athlete and played rugby as a lock forward. He progressed through the ranks, joining the Connacht Rugby academy in 2015 and representing Ireland in the under-20s championship in 2016. He even played professionally for a season in 2018-2019. This athletic background makes him well-suited to physically portray the character of Colossus.
Despite his current physique, Claffey admits he wasn’t always the typical athletic type. He was actually quite thin and uncoordinated growing up, and joined the rugby team more to fit in and be social than because of any natural talent. Professional sports proved too challenging, and he left the league, realizing it wasn’t for him. Instead, he pursued his passion for comedy, posting videos online and training as an actor at the Bow Street Academy in Dublin, graduating in 2020. After taking on smaller acting roles, he eventually landed the lead role in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

Marvel fans are noticing that Peter Claffey is a perfect match for the X-Men character Colossus, both in appearance and personality. Colossus, whose real name is Piotr Rasputin, began as a kind, quiet farmer – a large man with a gentle heart and a strong devotion to his loved ones. Interestingly, Piotr – or Peter – is also a talented artist and painter.
It’s hard to imagine a more perfect actor-character match than Peter Claffey as Peter Rasputin (Colossus). He seems naturally suited to the role, perhaps even more so than an American accent for Beast. Even if Claffey excels as Beast, fans will likely always associate him with Colossus, sparking debate about what could have been. It’s a risky move to cast him as both, especially now, as a miscast superhero role can have a lasting negative impact on an actor’s career.
Is Colossus Part of the X-Men MCU Reboot?

That’s the main question we should maybe be asking here, no?
Okay, so we still don’t know for sure who’s going to be in the new MCU X-Men team, but a lot of fans think Marvel is looking at the X-Men ’97 cartoon for inspiration. That show was a continuation of the awesome X-Men: The Animated Series from the ’90s, and its core team was Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Wolverine, Rogue, Gambit, Jubilee, and Storm, with Professor X as their mentor. Colossus popped up in a few episodes of that original cartoon, but he wasn’t always a main player – it really went either way if he’d be included. Honestly, a lot of us probably know Colossus best from the Deadpool movies, where Stefan Kapičić did his voice – he was fantastic!
The biggest problem with casting an actor like Peter Claffey as Colossus is that the character has already been well-portrayed on screen with a relatively unknown voice actor. Plus, Colossus isn’t always included in X-Men movies, so it’s doubtful he’d receive the same in-depth character development he enjoys in the comics.
Reports suggest the new X-Men movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe might come out in 2028. Join the conversation and talk all things Marvel on the ComicBook Forum!
