PS4 Exclusive Game Begins Shutdown Process in 48 Hours

A PlayStation 4 game released in 2020 is beginning to wind down. While six years isn’t a long time for a game, especially an online one, its online features are being removed. This doesn’t mean the game will disappear immediately, but it does signal the start of the end, as the removal of key online features usually leads to the servers being shut down completely.

On April 20th, online features for Granblue Fantasy Versus on PS4 (and PS5 via backward compatibility) will be significantly limited, essentially making the game function as if it’s constantly in maintenance. While many players have likely moved on to the newer Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, those who still play the original will lose access to ranked matches and online lobbies. This also means three trophies will no longer be obtainable, making the Platinum Trophy impossible to earn. Some online features will remain available, and the game will continue to be sold, though it’s unclear how. You can find a detailed list of what’s being removed and what will still work here.

2020 2.5D Fighting Game

The game’s online support is ending, but Arc System Works hasn’t officially explained why. It’s likely the costs of maintaining the online services are now higher than the benefits, as fewer people are playing. With a newer version of the game available, most fans probably won’t be too upset about this partial shutdown.

So, this game came out in 2020 as a sequel to Granblue Fantasy from 2014. When it first launched, it got a pretty good score of 78 on Metacritic, but honestly, the player reviews were even better! It’s sitting at a 4.27 out of 5 on the PlayStation Store, and that’s after over 4,600 reviews from both PS4 and PS5 players. It originally launched as a PlayStation 4 exclusive, and while it did eventually come to PC, it never made its way to any other consoles, including the PS5. If you’re interested, you can still pick it up for around $20.
