Horror fans, hurry! Tubi, the free streaming service, is about to lose a highly-rated scary movie that’s not for the faint of heart. While Tubi has a great selection of frightening films – from beloved classics like Thirteen Ghosts to hidden gems like Lake Mungo – one particularly terrifying title has been added to the list of movies leaving soon. This comes despite recent additions in April, including Cabin Fever, It Comes at Night, and all three original Scream movies.
According to scientific studies, Rob Savage’s film Host is one of the most frightening movies ever made. Since 2021, the Science of Scare Project – which measures viewers’ heart rates and stress levels – has consistently ranked the film, about a group of friends who unintentionally conjure a demon during an online séance, among the scariest. In the 2025 study, it came in second place, just behind Sinister. However, if you want to test your courage, you’ll need to act fast – Host is leaving Tubi soon, usually at the end of the month.
Host Is One of the Most Perfect Found Footage Horror Films in Recent Memory
Host succeeds at creating genuine scares by cleverly utilizing the found footage and screenlife formats. Filmed entirely on Zoom during the pandemic, the film transforms the familiar experience of lockdown into a terrifying 57-minute story. By using the Zoom interface, the movie makes the supernatural threat feel intensely personal, confined, and immediate. The film actively engages viewers, forcing them to carefully watch multiple screen windows for subtle clues of what’s to come, which creates a consistently high level of tension. Furthermore, the actors handling their own cameras and appearance adds to the movie’s realistic and believable feel.
The movie Host is a truly terrifying experience, using the found footage style to deliver almost non-stop scares and leave viewers breathless. It’s now considered one of the best modern horror films in this format and has received widespread praise. On Rotten Tomatoes, it boasts a remarkable 98% audience score and is ranked as one of the top horror movies of 2020, second only to His House. It also resonated with a broader audience, earning a 70% overall score.
Where to Stream Host After It Leaves Tubi?
Good news for horror fans: even though Host is no longer available on Tubi, you can still watch it on Netflix and AMC+ with a subscription. You can also buy or rent the movie online. While it might show up on another streaming service soon, that hasn’t been confirmed yet.
