Fans are excited for the return of the popular isekai anime, Ascendance of a Bookworm, with its fourth season premiering in Spring 2026. The show is known for its detailed world and realistic, everyday feel, setting it apart from typical action-focused isekai. While the first three seasons were produced by Ajia-do studio, WIT Studio, a highly respected animation house, took over for Season 4. However, the season quickly faced criticism when viewers noticed the opening credits used AI-generated art, which many found disappointing. The studio acknowledged the issue and took responsibility less than a week after the premiere on April 4th, 2026.
The initial opening song issue has been resolved, and new episodes of the anime are now available every Saturday at 2:30 A.M. Pacific Time. Three subtitled episodes have been released, and the English dub premiered on April 18, 2026. The dub will come out at the same time as new episodes, but will be a few weeks after the original Japanese release. Crunchyroll’s official website has announced the cast and crew, and confirmed that the original English voice actors are returning for this season.
Ascendance of a Bookworm Has Now Updated The Controversial Opening

WIT Studio is famous for creating popular and highly-rated shows, including the first three seasons of Attack on Titan. They’ve also produced other visually impressive series like Moonrise, Love Through a Prism, and Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song. So, when news of their use of AI sparked controversy, fans were surprised, but the initial upset is starting to fade.
The studio discovered that AI-generated images were used in some of the background art for the opening theme. They’ve since replaced the theme with a new version featuring redrawn artwork. The studio has a policy against using AI in its projects and stated that the art director and background studio weren’t involved with this issue. Fortunately, the rest of the anime looks good, and the problem was limited to the opening theme, which has now been fixed.
What Is Ascendance of a Bookworm About?

Urano Motosu was a book lover who dreamed of working as a librarian, but tragically died in an accident. With her last breath, she wished for a life filled with reading. She was reborn as Myne, a weak five-year-old girl, in a strange new world. To her dismay, this world had almost no books because no one had invented printing yet.
Before books were easily made, they were very costly, and only the wealthy could afford them. This sets the stage for Myne’s love of reading and her determination to create more books. The current season follows her as she transitions from a commoner to Rozemyne, the daughter of a powerful duke in Ehrenfest.
