Wolverine isn’t exactly the most popular hero. Though he’s become more talkative over time, he’s still largely a loner known for his sharp, often sarcastic, personality. He’s made quite a few enemies, both among his allies and his opponents. Many heroes don’t particularly care for him, and it’s safe to say the villains feel even worse. Wolverine is known for his aggressive fighting style and isn’t afraid to use violence, and he’s just as likely to be rude to enemies as he is to heroes. This has earned him a lot of hatred from the villains he fights.
Most villains avoid fighting him, but a select few are obsessed with defeating Wolverine. These ten Marvel villains harbor a particular hatred for Canada’s second shortest superhero, and their conflicts have become infamous for their brutality.
10) Apocalypse

Apocalypse is a major enemy of the X-Men, and he’s fought Wolverine countless times. Believing only the strongest should survive, Apocalypse has a certain respect for Logan, but as an ancient and powerful mutant, he also sees Wolverine as small in comparison. While Apocalypse doesn’t think Wolverine is weak, he doesn’t fully acknowledge his strength. Wolverine, however, has consistently opposed Apocalypse, becoming a key figure in trying to defeat him. This ongoing conflict has only made Apocalypse resent Wolverine more and more.
9) Mojo

Mojo has a complicated relationship with the X-Men. While he despises them, he recognizes their popularity boosts ratings in the Mojoverse, creating a strange sort of fondness. He’s particularly fixated on Wolverine. Logan’s dangerous nature makes him popular with Mojo’s audience, the Spineless Ones, but Wolverine is also frequently responsible for ruining Mojo’s plans, earning him the villain’s intense hatred.
8) Mister Sinister

Mister Sinister is incredibly dangerous, possessing a deep understanding of genetics that he uses to threaten the world. He views everyone solely as a source of DNA for his experiments. While he highly values the genetic makeup of heroes like Cyclops and Jean Grey, he considers Wolverine largely worthless for his research and looks down on him because of it. Sinister has always disliked Wolverine, and he particularly enjoys tormenting and insulting him, often more harshly than he treats other teammates. He simply has no interest in Wolverine’s unique abilities and despises him for it.
7) Donald Pierce

The Hellfire Club is a highly influential organization composed of mutants who leverage their resources and status to gain power. Donald Pierce, a former member of the group’s inner circle, stands out as a particularly unique figure. He’s a cyborg, famous for creating the Reavers, and has a long-standing grudge against Wolverine. During the Outback Era, Pierce and the Reavers nearly killed Wolverine, escalating their rivalry into a bitter cycle of revenge. Each encounter only deepens their hatred, fueling a relentless feud. Despite repeatedly losing to Wolverine, Pierce’s animosity has only grown stronger.
6) Magneto

Magneto’s views have changed significantly over time, and he’s no longer simply a villain. But when he was an enemy of the X-Men, he intensely disliked Wolverine. Magneto’s magnetic powers are particularly effective against Wolverine, given his metal skeleton, but that hasn’t stopped Wolverine from repeatedly trying to defeat him. Their conflict reached a critical point when Magneto removed the adamantium from Wolverine’s bones, escalating their hatred. Wolverine has consistently tried to kill Magneto, a figure often seen as a powerful advocate and leader for mutants.
5) Lady Deathstrike

Lady Deathstrike’s dislike of Wolverine is deeply rooted in her past. Her father invented the process for bonding adamantium to bone, but the idea was stolen. This fueled Yuriko’s desire for revenge against those responsible, and she transformed herself into a deadly cyborg to achieve it. She and Wolverine have clashed violently many times, their mutual hatred pushing them to ever more extreme levels of conflict. Though they’ve occasionally found common ground, her intense loathing for him always resurfaces.
4) Cyber

Cyber and Wolverine have been enemies for over a century, their conflict dating back to the 1800s. Originally recruited by Romulus to target Wolverine, Cyber trained Logan while he served in the Canadian army during World War I, using the time to torment him. This fueled a growing hatred between them, and their numerous battles have only intensified it. They are locked in a perpetual cycle of trying to kill each other, with both considering the other a prime target.
3) Mystique

Mystique is a major X-Men villain with a complicated past with Wolverine. Both are far older than they look, and they shared many adventures together in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Though they initially worked together, they eventually became enemies, vowing to fight each other for years to come. Her alliance with Sabretooth often leads Wolverine to distrust her, seeing her as just as dangerous as Sabretooth himself. Even when they appear to be on the same side, Mystique and Wolverine are constantly testing each other, always ready to resume their conflict.
2) Romulus

Romulus is one of Wolverine’s most enduring enemies, and that’s notable considering all the villains Wolverine has faced. He claims to be a founder of Rome, alongside his sister Remus, and has spent centuries building his influence. Like Wolverine, Romulus possesses incredible healing abilities, heightened senses, and physical strength. He’s often tried to unite mutants with these powers to form a powerful force, and for a long time, Wolverine was his primary target. Romulus spent years trying to break Wolverine down to gain control over other mutants. Wolverine has repeatedly thwarted Romulus’s plans, creating a deep and intense rivalry between them.
1) Sabretooth

Sabretooth is Wolverine’s greatest and most persistent foe, fueled by a deep-seated hatred for Logan. While they share many similarities, their core difference lies in how they handle their primal instincts. Wolverine strives to control his inner beast, whereas Sabretooth, whose real name is Victor Creed, fully embraces it. In a warped way, Creed cherishes his connection with Wolverine, but resents Logan’s refusal to abandon his humanity and revel in violence alongside him. For years, Creed has relentlessly tormented Wolverine, finding particular satisfaction in causing him pain.
