Batman is likely the most well-known superhero globally and a defining character for DC Comics. He’s appeared in more comics than any other superhero. As Gotham City’s protector, he fights crime and corruption, constantly striving to improve his city. While often seen as a loner – and sometimes portrayed as paranoid and difficult – Batman has consistently relied on allies. From his first partner, Robin, to the numerous teams he’s created, he’s always worked with others.
As a huge cinema fan, I’m always fascinated by the dynamics between superheroes, and Batman’s relationships are some of the most interesting. We all know how great he is with Superman, and of course, the whole Bat-Family is iconic. But I’ve been thinking about some of his lesser-known team-ups, the ones that really surprised and delighted me. Batman’s worked with pretty much everyone over the years, and while a lot of those pairings are fun, there are seven in particular that I think really shine. Let’s dive in and explore some of Batman’s best, but often overlooked, partnerships!
7) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

While Batman and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles rarely team up, their crossovers are always fantastic. All five are highly skilled ninjas, but Batman’s abilities are comparable to those of Master Splinter and Shredder. The Turtles themselves are a mix of impressive skill and teenage impulsiveness, and each one has a unique and compelling relationship with Batman. They each draw out different aspects of his personality – his anger with Raphael, and his sense of humor with Mikey, for example. Together, the Turtles and Batman create a truly formidable fighting force, complementing each other’s strengths and covering their weaknesses.
6) The Question

Renee Montoya and Vic Sage both have interesting relationships with Batman, but I find the Batman and Vic Sage (The Question) pairing more compelling. While Renee and Batwoman make a fun duo, Batman and The Question share similar skills as detectives and fighters, and move in the same circles. What makes their team-ups special is that The Question is even more driven and suspicious than Batman, which is unusual. When they work together, it usually signals the start of a complex mystery that really challenges them both. They understand each other on a deep level, making their collaborations particularly engaging.
5) Zatanna

Zatanna and Batman share a long and complicated history. They first met when Bruce Wayne was a young traveler, and they even dated for a time. Despite numerous challenges and their own personal flaws, they’ve maintained a close connection. They often disagree, both in their personal lives and when working together, because Batman relies on logic and strict rules while Zatanna’s life is centered around the unpredictable nature of magic. This creates a compelling dynamic built on both tension and deep trust, allowing them to see each other as equals and respect each other’s expertise, which makes every conversation engaging.
4) The Flash

We prefer Barry Allen as our Flash. He and Batman have a strong history, and their best work happens when they team up on cases. Both are skilled at figuring things out – Batman as a detective, and Flash using forensic science – making them an incredible crime-solving duo. Their contrasting personalities actually complement each other well. While Batman is often serious and guarded, Flash is cheerful and hopeful. Surprisingly, they get along great, understanding and deeply respecting each other’s differences.
3) Green Lantern

It’s incredibly tough to choose a single Green Lantern for this role. While characters like Guy Gardner, Alan Scott, Simon Baz, and Jessica Cruz all have strong connections to Batman, the dynamic between Batman and Hal Jordan is unmatched. They’ve worked together for years, but their relationship truly deepened after Hal’s time as the villain Parallax. Batman was understandably wary of Hal, struggling to understand how he fell from grace and feeling hurt by the betrayal of a friend.
Hal slowly earned Bruce’s trust, and their respect for each other grew even stronger. Despite their differences – Hal’s impulsive nature and Bruce’s strict methods – they always support each other, and even when they argue, it’s clear how much they care. Their dynamic is also incredibly funny, with Hal refusing to take Bruce’s seriousness too seriously and the constant contrast between Batman and Green Lantern providing plenty of humor.
2) Green Arrow

As a huge fan of both heroes, I’ve always found the dynamic between Green Arrow’s Oliver Queen and Batman’s Bruce Wayne fascinating. It totally makes sense they have so much in common – Green Arrow was originally designed to be a bit like Batman, after all! They’re both incredibly wealthy guys who became heroes after experiencing personal tragedy, driven to protect their cities. But even though they generally like each other, they’re constantly bickering! Ollie’s always quick to share his opinions and do things his way, which really clashes with Bruce’s need to be in control and operate more quietly. Ollie’s a bit of a jokester, always ready with a laugh, while Bruce is, well, famously grumpy. But it’s more than just the classic funny man/serious man pairing. They’re true equals, and honestly, I think they both perform at their peak when they team up. It’s just a really compelling partnership to watch.
1) Wonder Woman

While Batman’s bonds with Robin and Superman are often celebrated, his friendship with Wonder Woman deserves just as much recognition. Both Diana and Bruce are foundational heroes, dedicated to truth and justice, and they set the example for all others. What truly sets them apart is the deep trust they share – Bruce is genuinely comfortable around Diana in a way he isn’t with many people. They’ve witnessed each other’s triumphs and failures, and their care for one another is profound. They are truly best friends, and fans always enjoy seeing them team up.
