The X-Men and the Avengers are two of the most popular teams in comic books. Both teams frequently add new members, but they do so in different ways. The X-Men typically introduce brand new mutant heroes, while the Avengers recruit established heroes to join their ranks. Despite this, some characters have been members of both teams – Beast and Wolverine have been Avengers for years, and Storm was recently part of the team.
The X-Men and the Avengers occasionally clash, but they share a common goal: protecting the world. Given the serious dangers mutants often face, it makes sense to add more of them to the Avengers. Plus, it’s exciting to see different heroes team up! Here are seven X-Men who haven’t been Avengers yet, but would be great additions.
7) Iceman

Bobby Drake, also known as Iceman, is a founding member of the X-Men, but he’s currently feeling lost and without a clear role. He isn’t part of any of the X-Men’s active teams, and while he’s a leader at the Greymatter Lane school for mutants, he hasn’t had a significant adventure in years. He’s looking for a new challenge, and joining the Avengers could be the perfect opportunity. As an incredibly powerful mutant with impressive control over ice, Iceman would be a valuable addition to the team and reinforce their reputation as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. All he needs is a chance to show what he can do, and the Avengers would provide a fantastic platform for him.
6) Captain Britain

Betsy Braddock, also known as Psylocke, has gone through many changes and challenges to become the hero she is today, including a complicated body swap and a constantly evolving set of powers. She’s proven her abilities time and again, and it’s time for a new, bigger role. With Kwannon now established as the X-Men’s Psylocke, Betsy needs to find her own unique place, and joining the Avengers would be perfect. This move would allow her to fully embrace her identity as a mutant, a defender of Avalon, and a true hero, demonstrating that her dedication to heroism isn’t tied to a specific location or team. The Avengers could use another captain, and previous leaders have already created a path for Betsy to succeed.
5) Colossus

Colossus, like Iceman, hasn’t had a strong direction in the X-Men stories for a while. While he’s currently featured in a good mini-series with his sister, he otherwise feels disconnected from the rest of the team. He’s a compelling character – kind-hearted with a complicated history – and is at a point where he’s trying to define himself. A change of scenery and new relationships could be just what he needs. Plus, with the Hulk currently positioned as a villain, having another strong, physically powerful hero is a real asset.
4) Forge

For a long time, Iron Man has been the Avengers’ go-to expert for technology. However, bringing in someone new like Forge could be a great benefit. Forge is incredibly inventive, capable of building almost anything, and offers a fresh perspective. The Avengers have become reliant on Tony Stark’s technology, and Forge could introduce entirely new areas of innovation. He’s a talented creator who hasn’t gotten the recognition he deserves with the X-Men, and the Avengers could provide the environment where he’s truly challenged and able to reach his full potential.
3) Phoenix

Now that Thor is unavailable and Captain Marvel isn’t leading, the Avengers need someone with incredible cosmic power. Jean Grey, fully connected to the Phoenix Force, is the ideal candidate. She’s currently one of Marvel’s most powerful heroes, and the Avengers have been facing increasingly large, universe-level threats. With Jean currently operating independently from the X-Men, joining the Avengers would allow her to both defend Earth and explore the wider universe.
2) Nightcrawler

Nightcrawler, the blue-skinned elf and long-time X-Man, is a fantastic supporting character in the Marvel universe. Despite being a core member of Rogue’s team, he’s always open to new possibilities. He’s a deeply spiritual and kind man trapped in a demonic-looking body – a walking paradox who brings light and hope wherever he goes. Nightcrawler is the heart of any team, constantly reminding everyone what they’re fighting for and inspiring the best in those around him. His unwavering optimism is especially valuable for a group dedicated to saving the world. And honestly, imagining a conversation between Nightcrawler and Captain America is just incredibly heartwarming.
1) Cyclops

While it might seem surprising, Cyclops, the long-time leader of the X-Men, should join the Avengers. He’s been the face of the X-Men since the beginning, guiding them through countless challenges and always fighting for mutant rights. The X-Men have always strived for peaceful coexistence, and Cyclops joining Earth’s Mightiest Heroes would powerfully demonstrate that mutants and humans can fight side-by-side. He’s a brilliant strategist with incredible battlefield awareness, and while he’s a vital part of the X-Men, his skills would be a huge asset to the Avengers as well.
