Jessica Chastain Chops Off Her Hair for Dramatic Short Style

Jessica Chastain needs no help stealing the show.

Actress Madeline Brewer, known for her role in Help, showed off a striking new haircut at the Breakthrough Prize Ceremony in Santa Monica on April 18th. She debuted a very short bob, cut just above her chin.

Before walking the red carpet, 49-year-old Chastain had a major hair change, cutting off her long waves into a stylish bob with a deep side part. She completed her look with a stunning golden Oscar de la Renta gown. While her hairstyle was classic Hollywood, the dress had a more relaxed, bohemian feel with its palm print and tasseled hem.

On April 19th, she shared a before-and-after video on Instagram showing off her new haircut, playfully captioning it “Choppity chop.”

Jessica Chastain’s hairstylist, Renato Campora, praised her new, modern look online. Friends also showed their support on social media, with Julianne Hough playfully welcoming her to the world of bobs.

Jessica Chastain is willing to try different hairstyles, but she plans to stick with her current hair color.

She explained to Refinery29 in 2017, as reported by Today, that growing up, she just wanted to fit in. She didn’t want to stand out, and she was often teased for her red hair and freckles.

She explained that the things people make fun of you for – the things that make you unique – are often what you’ll eventually come to appreciate. She used her hair as an example, saying she could change it if she wanted, but she now understands and embraces her individuality because it’s what makes her special.

So, these days, Chastain won’t alter her signature orange hue for a role.  

For me, wigs are everything! She really hit the nail on the head when she said they’re the only way she can completely transform her look. It’s incredible – they don’t just let you switch up your hair color, but you can literally change your entire hairline and even how your hair feels. It’s a total game changer!

Honestly, Jessica Chastain just does her own thing, and I love it! She’s said herself she’s never really bothered with trends, and that’s so refreshing. It’s like, she doesn’t need to follow anyone else – she just wears what she likes, and it’s amazing!

She explained to Elle Spain in March 2025 that she doesn’t follow fashion trends closely. Instead, if she liked something – even if it was considered out of style – she’d simply wear it. She doesn’t let what others think dictate her choices, and prefers to wear whatever makes her happy.
