Prepare for a mix of Romeo & Juliet and any good crime drama, as Mint makes its way to our screens.
Charlotte Regan, the director of ‘Scrapper,’ wrote and created the new series, showcasing her talent for heartfelt storytelling. It beautifully captures the experiences of first love and growing up.
In the new drama, a hip-hop artist is making his first appearance as an actor, playing Arran. His character develops a connection with Shannon, played by Emma Laird, even though their families are enemies. The film is directed by Emma Laird and Benjamin Coyle-Larner.
Coyle-Larner explained to TopMob that she found him uniquely genuine compared to how people are usually depicted in media. She felt it was important for audiences to recognize that everyone has vulnerabilities, regardless of how strong or composed they may seem.
Who else appears in the new show? Here’s a complete guide to the cast of BBC’s Mint.

Emma Laird as Shannon

Shannon grew up with everything she could ever want, thanks to her father’s position as the leader of a criminal organization. She’s lived a sheltered life, but that changes when she falls for Arran, unaware that their families are rivals.
You might recognize Emma Laird from her work in the TV shows Mayor of Kingstown and The Crowded Room, as well as the films 28 Years Later and 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple.
Benjamin Coyle-Larner as Arran

Arran recently relocated to Scotland to reconnect with his half-brother, Liangelo. However, he’s not comfortable with the lifestyle Liangelo leads, and he’s trying to distance himself from it.
According to Coyle-Larner, the man travels from London to Glasgow to visit his brother and ends up getting involved in some risky and unfamiliar activities. He feels pressured to support his family, but clearly doesn’t belong in that environment, as he told TopMob.
Okay, so you’re wondering where you recognize the guy from ‘Mint’? That’s Benjamin Coyle-Larner, but most of us know him as Loyle Carner, the rapper! This is actually his first time acting – pretty cool to see him branching out, right?
Lewis Gribben as Luke

Luke is Shannon’s brother. He used to live in Scotland, but now he lives elsewhere while attending university.
You might recognize Lewis Gribben from his appearances in shows like Somewhere Boy, Masters of the Air, Generation Z, and Black Mirror.
Laura Fraser as Cat

Cat is the mother of Shannon and Luke, and Dylan’s wife. She sees their relationship as a beautiful love story and has dedicated her life to him, though she tends to overlook some of the problems within it.
You might recognize Laura Fraser from her work on popular TV shows like Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Traces, Patience, and Crime.
Sam Riley as Dylan

Dylan heads a powerful crime family, but he doesn’t particularly enjoy being a ruthless boss. His life is about to change dramatically, and he’s facing some important choices.
You might recognize Sam Riley from films like Maleficent, Control, and Byzantium – he’s a talented actor who’s even been nominated for a BAFTA award.
Lindsay Duncan as Ollie

Let me tell you about Ollie. She’s Dylan’s mom, and honestly, she’s the matriarch of this really complex family. What I find fascinating is that she just doesn’t care what anyone thinks – she’s unapologetically herself. She’s very open about her sexuality and, frankly, a little intimidating, which I think is kind of amazing.
I always recognize Lindsay Duncan, but sometimes I struggle to place her! She’s been in so much good stuff over the years, both on stage and in films. When it comes to TV, I definitely remember her from shows like Sherlock, Doctor Who, and Rome. More recently, I really enjoyed her in Truelove and The Death of Bunny Munro. She’s just consistently brilliant.
Connor Newall as Liangelo

Liangelo is Arran’s half-brother – they share the same father, who is now deceased. Though reunited with Arran, Liangelo is currently mixed up in some shady activities.
You might recognize Connor Newall from his roles in the series 28 Years Later and 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. Mint was actually his first television appearance.
