The new BBC series uses magical realism and creative visuals to tell the love story of Mint, and also features beautiful scenery.
The series kicks off with a fast-moving romance between Shannon (Emma Laird) and Arran (Benjamin Coyle-Larner), but their families are rivals in the criminal underworld. The initial episodes explore their immediate connection and growing attraction.
Arran’s an outsider, and his brother is causing problems for Shannon’s family, leaving their future uncertain. The beautiful and atmospheric setting of the series is almost a character itself, offering stunning visuals that perfectly complement the unique and captivating story.
Ever wondered where the BBC series Mint was filmed? This article has all the details about the show’s filming locations, plus some behind-the-scenes information about the Scottish landscapes from creator Charlotte Regan.
Mint location guide: Where was the BBC drama filmed?

The new BBC series was filmed in Scotland, mostly in Glasgow and Grangemouth. Grangemouth is a port and industrial town that used to have a large oil refinery, which features prominently in many scenes of the show.
Filming for the TV show Mint took place in Grangemouth, specifically on Fintry Road and Tummel Place, as reported by The Falkirk Herald.
Charlotte Regan, the creator of the new TV series ‘Mint,’ chose to film in Scotland because of the exceptional film crew she’d worked with there previously. She told TopMob that she knew she couldn’t bring her vision to life without them.
I expect to be drawn to stories about Scotland and its people throughout my career. Growing up, I spent many summers there visiting my grandmother, and I was always captivated by the country. Even simple places like bingo halls felt incredibly vibrant and full of interesting characters – both those performing and those watching. It really felt like being on a film set, surrounded by compelling people.
Regan explained to the BBC that she chose to film in Scotland because she has a strong connection to the country. She visited often as a child and enjoyed working with the Scottish crew on a previous project. She appreciated the collaborative spirit and teamwork they brought to the production, making it a key reason for filming there.
People in Scotland, particularly in places like Grangemouth that rarely see film crews, were really excited about the project. We made an effort to involve the local community, and I’ve found that when you do, they’re incredibly supportive. Every day, people would come to watch and be part of it, which created a fantastic atmosphere. Plus, the local actors were fantastic – Scotland has so much acting talent.
