Okay, so Sony finally decided to add some new games to the PS Plus Premium Classics section! It’s been a while, and honestly, it felt like they’d forgotten about it, so this is a nice surprise.
The latest PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium update revealed that Wild Arms 4, a Japanese role-playing game originally released for the PlayStation 2 in 2005, will be playable on both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 through emulation starting April 21st.
The first three Wild Arms games can already be found on the PlayStation Store, which could mean the fifth game – a fan favorite and a later release for the PlayStation 2 – might be coming soon as well.
Wild Arms 4 isn’t generally considered one of the best games in the series. Though many players enjoy its unique battle system, the story often receives criticism.
As a huge fan, I was so disappointed when the North American version of the game came out missing two monsters! The game itself didn’t even tell you they were gone, which meant it was impossible to truly complete it. And things were even worse for European players – their version had bugs that actually stopped you from progressing, and back then, there wasn’t a way to just download a fix. It was a real mess!
Compared to most JRPGs, Wild Arms 4 is relatively short, taking around 25 to 30 hours to complete. This makes it a less daunting game, which is a welcome change for fans of the genre.
This game, similar to other PS2 games played through emulation, will have features like save states and the ability to rewind gameplay. Because Sony originally published it in Japan and XSEED released it in North America, it will likely also support Trophies.
If you have a PlayStation Plus Premium membership, this game is already included. However, Sony often offers these older games for individual purchase, so you should be able to buy it separately if you don’t have a subscription.
