Season 5 of The Boys is taking Black Noir in a surprising direction, and it might lead to him eliminating a major character with superpowers. Throughout the series, Black Noir has been a complex figure – initially a quiet assassin, then turning against Homelander, seemingly dying, and being replaced by an actor. Now, he’s back to being silent, a big change from the talkative version we saw in season 4.
It’s obvious that something is different with Noir in The Boys, but the exact reason remains a mystery. Season 5 is expected to reveal what’s changed, as fans have been actively speculating about his behavior. While he hasn’t been a central figure so far, appearing mostly alongside The Deep in the first three episodes, their strained interactions hint at a bigger issue. Warning: Spoilers ahead for both The Boys comic books and season 5, episodes 1-3.
Black Noir Killing Homelander Wouldn’t Work For The Boys TV Show

A common fan theory suggests that Black Noir will ultimately kill Homelander in the show. This idea stems from the comic books, where Black Noir is very similar to his TV character. In the comics, it’s revealed that Noir is actually a clone of Homelander – and a more powerful, ruthless one at that. He’s responsible for some of the most terrible things, including the attack on Butcher’s wife, and cleverly makes it look like Homelander did them, positioning himself as the real villain of The Boys.
After Noir shares this information with Homelander, a fight breaks out. Noir ultimately wins, killing Homelander. Despite being injured himself, the clone proves to be a better fighter than the original.
When the first season of The Boys was released, fans anticipated the show would follow a specific storyline from the comics, as it’s a key plot point in the source material. However, it quickly became apparent that the Prime Video series was deviating significantly. Many important comic book stories were left out, so the reveal that Noir is a Black man who has been connected to Vought since Soldier Boy’s era made it unlikely he was actually a clone of Homelander.
With the recasting of Noir in season four, some fans have speculated he might be a clone of Homelander. However, this plot twist feels unnecessary. Many viewers are already familiar with this storyline from the original comics, making it predictable. Considering how much the show has already deviated from the source material, keeping this particular comic book plot point doesn’t make sense. Plus, the reveal that Soldier Boy is Homelander’s father already serves a similar purpose, so having both twists would be redundant.
Within the show’s story, it wouldn’t be believable for Noir to be secretly replaced by a clone. Homelander is essentially in charge of Vought, meaning no one could pull off such a switch without him knowing. Sister Sage is the only one with the potential to do it, and she might have created the clone as a backup plan if Homelander becomes too dangerous. However, this feels like a forced plot device, likely to set up an ending that closely follows the comic book version.
Instead, Season 5 Sets Up Black Noir Killing The Deep

It looks likely that Black Noir will target The Deep if there’s a killing in season 5. They used to be allies, but in season 4, The Deep took control over the actor playing Noir, changing their relationship. Now, a competitive rivalry is brewing between them. Noir has become more powerful and reliable, earning Homelander’s trust, which is fueling The Deep’s desire to prove himself and is causing tension to build.
Okay, so in Season 5, Episode 3, things get really messy. Noir manages to capture Stan Edgar, but The Deep sees this as his chance to impress Homelander. He basically blindsides Noir, knocks him out, and takes Edgar, leaving Noir completely out of the picture. It’s pretty obvious Noir isn’t going to let that slide, and honestly, I’m worried this is going to end with The Deep getting seriously hurt – maybe even killed – before the season is over. It’s classic The Boys – brutal and unpredictable!
