As a long-time Dragon Ball fan and gamer, I’ve always loved how well the series translates to video games. Titles like Budokai Tenkaichi, Xenoverse, and FighterZ really nailed the feel of the Dragon Ball universe with awesome characters and over-the-top battles. But things are looking even better now! Bandai Namco just held a Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour event in LA, and they dropped a bunch of exciting news about what’s coming next for the franchise. I’m seriously hyped!
There’s a lot to look forward to for Dragon Ball fans! New downloadable content is coming to popular games like Xenoverse 2 and FighterZ, and the free-to-play games are getting expanded. Plus, Dragon Ball Age 1000, a sequel set far in the future, will actually be the next Xenoverse game. Overall, it’s great news, and fans have a lot to enjoy over the next couple of years.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 Being Dragon Ball Age 1000 Is A Great Move

Originally announced last year as Dragon Ball Age 1000, the game is actually a brand new installment in the Xenoverse series, which is great news for Dragon Ball fans. Xenoverse lets you create your own character and experience the Dragon Ball universe firsthand, meeting and training with familiar heroes while saving the world as a unique character. Previous games in the series told a story about protecting the timeline, with players taking on the role of a Time Patroller working alongside Future Trunks and the Kais.
The game offers a smart way to make the player feel significant without changing the main storyline of the Dragon Ball universe. In Xenoverse 3, you’ll be placed directly into the Dragon Ball world, but set over 200 years after the events of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero in Age 1000. Since most Dragon Ball stories take place in the 700s (starting with Dragon Ball in Age 749), this time jump creates a completely new future for the series, allowing for fresh characters – both allies and enemies – for players to encounter.
The game gives players more control and impact on the story and world of Dragon Ball. The fact that Akira Toriyama, the series creator, worked closely with the developers implies this could be considered an official continuation of the Dragon Ball story. This opens exciting new possibilities for future stories and allows the franchise to hint at what might happen to beloved characters. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 appears to be a significant addition to the series, introducing a brand-new era and setting for fans to discover.
Dragon Ball Fans Are Getting Plenty To Play Before Xenoverse 3

Although Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 isn’t expected to release until 2027, there’s still plenty of new content coming to the Dragon Ball series. Before Xenoverse 3 arrives, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 will receive one final DLC pack, “Future Saga Chapter 4.” This update will conclude the online game, which has been consistently updated since its 2016 release. It will bring together all of the game’s unique time-traveling villains and the iconic enemies from the original Dragon Ball series, providing a satisfying ending to this time-bending adventure.
To celebrate the history of the Xenoverse games, Xenoverse 2 will feature characters and content from free-to-play Dragon Ball games like Dokkan Battle, Legends, and Gekishin Squadra. Around the same time, Dragon Ball Sparking! Zero is getting a huge update with over 30 new characters, 4 new stages, new game modes, and adjustments based on player feedback. Both of these updates are planned for summer 2026, giving Dragon Ball fans a lot to enjoy while they wait for Xenoverse 3. And Dragon Ball FighterZ is also expanding its character roster with new DLC additions.
The New Age Of Dragon Ball

Fans can look forward to new content, including extended versions of classic stories like Beerus’s introduction, and the ongoing story of Dragon Ball Super. These developments are especially meaningful following the passing of Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama in 2024. He was still involved in guiding these projects, ensuring they remain true to the spirit of the franchise and its history.
With the release of Xenoverse 3, the Dragon Ball series is officially looking toward the future. This comes at a time when Dragon Ball Super is nearing the end of adapting stories directly created by Akira Toriyama, signaling a shift toward original content. Previously, the franchise, particularly its games, was criticized for relying too much on familiar storylines. However, these recent announcements – giving Xenoverse 2 a proper conclusion and launching Xenoverse 3 – show a willingness to explore new possibilities for Dragon Ball. For fans of Dragon Ball games, the next couple of years look incredibly promising.
