Amy Schumeris a girl’s girl, through and through.
As someone who really understands the challenges women face during menopause, I was so concerned to learn about the ongoing shortage of estrogen patches – they’re a lifeline for so many of us managing symptoms. So, I took to Instagram to try and raise awareness and let other women know what’s happening. It’s important we all support each other and share information when things like this impact our well-being.
In an Instagram video posted on April 18th, Amy explained she wanted to raise awareness about a real shortage of estrogen patches used in Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), hoping to help other women her age.
The 44-year-old then suggested other choices for women who use hormone patches, which provide a continuous dose of estrogen through the skin.
She advised getting a three-month prescription from your doctor now and exploring different forms of estrogen—like gels, not just patches—as well as trying various brands. She also stressed the importance of warning other women because these issues are genuine.
Amy’s video sparked a lot of thankful responses from her female followers, including actress Lisa Rinna.
“Thanks for pointing this out!” wrote the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, 62, in a comment. “It explains why the medication my pharmacy sent me today was a different brand!”
Patti Stanger, known from The Millionaire Matchmaker, and Michelle Visage, a judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race, also shared their opinions, and both agreed on the solution they preferred.
Michelle, 57, suggests asking your doctor about a specially made cream. Patti, 64, agrees, saying it’s the best option and can be created by a compounding pharmacy if your doctor prescribes it.

It’s easy to understand why Amy is so passionate about women’s health. She’s personally dealt with various health challenges and has been open about them on social media.
In 2021, the comedian revealed she had a hysterectomy to address her endometriosis. Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the uterine lining grows in other areas of the body. She shares a 6-year-old son, Gene, with her ex-husband, Chris Fischer.
Almost three years passed before Amy was diagnosed with Cushing syndrome, a hormonal condition caused by long-term steroid use. The diagnosis came about after many of her social media followers—especially doctors—noticed her face looked puffier, prompting her to investigate further.
“Thank God for that,” actress Amy Schumer wrote in her February 2024 News Not Noise newsletter. “That’s what made me realize something wasn’t right.”

Just last December, Amy shared how her diagnosis of Cushing syndrome led her to focus on weight loss.
She clarified that she actually lost 50 pounds, not 30. While she admitted it felt good to look better, she explained her weight loss wasn’t about appearances. She lost the weight to improve her health, as she had a serious condition causing severe swelling and posing a life-threatening risk, which was noticed by people online and has since resolved.
Amy isn’t alone in sharing her health struggles. Here are other celebrities who have also been open about their medical experiences…

Nikki Bella, known from Total Bellas, shared that one of her breast implants moved after being hit during the elbow of fellow wrestler Piper Niven in a match back in July 2025.
She reassured her sister, Bella Garcia, that they would get the issue resolved eventually. She explained to the doctor that as soon as she finished her current commitments – implying after her divorce was finalized – she would return to address the problem and ensure everything looked its best, anticipating future use and wanting it to be presentable.

Lupita Nyong’o, known for her role in 12 Years a Slave, received a diagnosis of uterine fibroids—benign growths in or around the uterus—in 2014, the year she won an Academy Award for her performance in the film.
She didn’t share her diagnosis until 2025, when she revealed on Instagram that she had been privately struggling with the condition for over ten years.
She explained that many girls are taught to accept period pain as a normal part of womanhood. This often leaves them dealing with a common issue in silence and without support.

Oh my gosh, you won’t BELIEVE this! Our Riley, the absolute queen from Daisy Jones & The Six, was hospitalized! Apparently, she had a hernia – which is like, a little gap in her muscles, usually in her stomach or groin – and it was all because of… tight pants! Can you even imagine? She sacrifices everything for the look, and now this! I’m seriously so worried about her, but honestly, even this makes me love her more. She’s just… amazing.
She messaged Suki on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “You haven’t tweeted in ages!” Then, jokingly, she added, “I’ve been meaning to tell you… I think those super-tight pants I wore six months ago gave me a hernia, and I’ve been too afraid to say anything.”

The former star of Beverly Hills, 90210 shared in April 2025 that he was recovering from surgery to fix a nearly burst appendix.
Brian shared in an Instagram video that he recently experienced stomach pain, which led him to the emergency room. He explained that his appendix had a hole in it – it hadn’t fully burst, but was very close to doing so.
He added, “I’m on the road to recovery. It’s not an easy process. This is my first major surgery.”

During a soccer game against the Seattle Reign on September 14th at Lumen Field in Seattle, a midfielder from Racing Louisville collapsed after only a few minutes of play.
According to Reuters, the U.S. Women’s National Team player was seen slowly sitting down on the field with a teammate supporting her, before suddenly collapsing. Trainers were immediately called to assess her condition.
After receiving initial medical attention on the field, Savannah was taken to a nearby hospital for more tests, the National Women’s Soccer League reported. They stated she is currently in stable condition and fully conscious.

Adam Devine revealed that injuries from being hit by a cement truck at age 11 continue to bother him now.
“It’s been incredibly difficult,” Devine shared on the In Depth With Graham Bensinger podcast in 2025. “I experience spasms throughout my body, and doctors recently told me I was facing a life-threatening situation—within the last year, actually.”
He explained that his pain is intermittent, saying his body has some minor imperfections and isn’t quite working as it should.

A former contestant on The Bachelor went to the hospital because of severe back pain. He described being in so much pain that he had to crawl on his hands and knees, and the pain worsened during a road trip with a friend.
He described a persistent tingling sensation in his knees and toes during a March 2025 episode of his podcast, Trading Secrets. He explained that just a few weeks or a month prior, he was able to squat 295 pounds, but now he can’t even do a squat or stand on one leg without falling. He compared the feeling to having a stroke.
But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”

Gina Kirschenheiter, from The Real Housewives of Orange County, revealed that her ex-husband, Matt Kirschenheiter, had a heart attack in March 2025, but he is recovering well.

In March 2025, the actor from 30 Rock experienced a medical issue at a New York Knicks game and had to be taken out of Madison Square Garden in a wheelchair.
The comedian later posted on social media to explain he’d actually been suffering from food poisoning, but was starting to feel better.

In February 2025, the former Even Stevens star revealed she was shot in the face during a birthday outing with her husband, Brendan Rooney. They were on a trip to go clay pigeon shooting when the incident occurred.
In an Instagram post, she explained that she was accidentally shot in the face by someone at a party who fired a gun unsafely. Thankfully, @thebrendanrooney quickly helped her, checked her injuries, and drove her to the hospital. She was hit five times, and one bullet narrowly missed her right eye, coming within an inch of a direct hit.
The Kim Possible actor explained that a small piece of something got stuck behind their eye. Doctors have advised against removing it with surgery right now, but they will continue to monitor the situation, as their vision is currently normal.
The actress expressed immense gratitude for surviving a frightening experience. She shared her deep love for her daughters, husband, family, and friends, emphasizing how quickly life can change. She urged everyone to cherish their loved ones and hug them whenever possible, as life is precious and unpredictable.

Amy Schumer is grateful for the internet, even though it can be harsh, because it helped her discover a health issue. After noticing she looked “puffier,” Schumer was surprised to see doctors commenting on her appearance online, suggesting she might have Cushing syndrome. They pointed out changes in her face that concerned them. This led Schumer to realize she’d been receiving steroid injections after a breast reduction and C-section, which likely caused the condition. She wouldn’t have known about it otherwise. In a recent newsletter, Schumer expressed relief that her form of Cushing syndrome is temporary and she’s healthy, calling it the best news she could have received.

In December 2024, an AHL player suffered a skate cut during a game and needed 25 stitches to close the wound. After his son fully recovered, New Jersey Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald told ESPN, “We feel very fortunate. No parent should have to go through that.”

In March 2022, Hailey Bieber experienced a frightening health scare while having breakfast with her husband, Justin Bieber. She suddenly developed stroke-like symptoms, unable to speak and noticing her face drooping. Though these symptoms eventually subsided, she went to the hospital for testing. Doctors discovered she’d had a small blood clot travel to her brain, which they identified as a TIA, or transient ischemic attack. Further investigation at UCLA revealed Hailey had a hole in her heart, called a patent foramen ovale (PFO). The blood clot had passed through this hole and caused the TIA. Hailey has since undergone a successful procedure to close the PFO and is now doing well.

The same year Hailey faced a health issue, Justin also experienced one. In June 2022, he revealed he had been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which caused temporary paralysis on one side of his face. This forced him to cancel the remaining dates of his Justice World Tour.
In a video posted to Instagram, Justin explained the condition affected the nerves in his ear and face, preventing him from blinking, smiling, or moving his nostril on the affected side. He also shared that it had become increasingly difficult for him to eat.
Fortunately, the paralysis eventually went away. Hailey later told viewers on Good Morning America that Justin was recovering well, adding that while the situation had been frightening, he was going to be okay and she was thankful he was fine.

Jamie Foxx recently shared details about the health scare he experienced in April 2023, which he had previously kept private. In his 2024 Netflix special, What Had Happened Was…, he explained that he was suffering from a severe headache when he suddenly lost consciousness. He doesn’t remember the next 20 days.
Initially, a doctor gave him a cortisone shot and sent him home, but his sister, Deidra Dixon, became concerned and took him to the hospital. Doctors discovered he had a brain bleed that led to a stroke.
After surgery, Jamie woke up in a wheelchair on May 4th, unable to walk. He then traveled to Chicago for rehabilitation and therapy. He expressed deep gratitude for the prayers he received, saying, “I needed every prayer.”

The reality TV star said she temporarily stopped breathing while running a mile during the first challenge on the NBC competition show.
She shared on the show Fit for TV: The Reality of The Biggest Loser that her memory of the event was fragmented. She recalled hearing a helicopter, feeling like she was floating, and then seeing her grandfather. After that, she remembered only darkness, followed by light, leading her to realize she had died that day.
She explained that her organs were failing. She hadn’t known she had rhabdomyolysis, a condition where the body essentially starts to shut down.

Emilia Clarke, known for her role in Game of Thrones, revealed a harrowing health battle in a 2019 essay for The New Yorker. While filming the show, she experienced a severe headache at the gym, followed by intense pain and vomiting. She quickly realized something was seriously wrong with her brain.
A hospital scan revealed she’d suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a life-threatening stroke caused by a ruptured aneurysm. She immediately underwent surgery to repair it, but the pain was excruciating. During her recovery, she experienced aphasia, leaving her unable to speak coherently.
Though the aphasia eventually passed and she was discharged after a month, a 2013 scan revealed the aneurysm had grown and required a second surgery. This procedure was unsuccessful, leading to a massive bleed and putting her life at risk. Doctors had to perform a more invasive surgery, accessing her brain directly through her skull.
Fortunately, Emilia is now fully recovered and says she is “at a hundred per cent.”

Cori Broadus, Snoop Dogg’s daughter, recently expressed her gratitude for her family’s support during a difficult time. In January 2024, she suffered a stroke and immediately reached out to her loved ones, sending a text message and a picture. She told TopMob News that everyone quickly came to her aid.
Cori ended up staying in the hospital longer than expected due to additional health issues. While she could have gone home after the stroke, she was also dealing with problems related to lupus and kidney failure.
Fortunately, Cori is now recovering well. “I’m doing great,” she shared, adding that she’s been working to regain some motor skills but is otherwise feeling good.

Shailene Woodley struggled with significant health issues throughout her 20s. In a September 2024 podcast interview, she revealed she experienced hearing loss, debilitating fatigue, and severe stomach pain, leading to a confusing array of diagnoses. Determined to find answers, Woodley combined traditional medical care with holistic and herbal remedies. This search for well-being lasted for ten years and, as a result of the physical discomfort, led to anxieties around food and struggles with body image and identity. Ultimately, Woodley was able to resolve her health issues and is now feeling very healthy and happy.
