How the Royal Family Honored Queen Elizabeth II on 100th Birthday

Queen Elizabeth II‘s spirit lives on with her loved ones.

The royal family marked the occasion of what would have been the late Queen’s 100th birthday, over three years after her death at the age of 96.

Before April 21st, King Charles III and Queen Camilla visited an exhibition at Buckingham Palace called “Queen Elizabeth II: Her Life in Style.” The exhibit showcased a large collection of the late Queen’s clothing, including her famous colorful coat dresses and the ivory silk wedding gown she wore in 1947, complete with pearls.

Charles and Camilla first looked at a display of over 300 fashionable pieces from his mother’s collection, then visited the Queen Elizabeth Memorial exhibit at the British Museum on April 21st.

Later that evening, Prince William and Kate Middleton, along with their children – 12-year-old Prince George, 10-year-old Princess Charlotte, and 7-year-old Prince Louis – joined the other royal couples for a reception at Buckingham Palace celebrating Elizabeth.

Kate honored Queen Elizabeth by wearing her signature three-strand pearl necklace. She had previously worn the necklace in 2022 at a lunch held at Buckingham Palace while mourning the Queen’s passing.

Charles, who became king after the death of his mother, Elizabeth, in September 2022, also shared a heartfelt and affectionate remembrance of her life and work.

He shared in an Instagram video on April 20th that her almost hundred years spanned a period of incredible change. However, he noted that throughout all those years and all the shifts that occurred, she consistently remained dedicated and true to those she served.

People will cherish her memory for both important national events and smaller, personal interactions – a kind smile, a thoughtful word, or even just the joy she seemed to find in simple moments, like sharing a marmalade sandwich with Paddington Bear towards the end of her life.

With the royal family still honoring Queen Elizabeth, take a look back at her life through these photos.
