The tribe has spoken—it’s time for the old ways to go.
Jeff Probst is really changing things up on Survivor 50, and he’s doing it by showing a much more playful side as host. He’s surprised the contestants with funny impressions and even rapped to announce a tribe swap chosen by fan votes.
Jeff Probst says he’s comfortable being the target of jokes, especially regarding this season of the show. In a recent interview with People magazine, he explained that he’s used to it and doesn’t take himself too seriously.
The veteran TV host is willingly facing some awkward situations to show he’s fully invested in the show. Since the competition challenges contestants both physically and emotionally, he wants to model that same vulnerability.
He explained that Survivor relies on contestants being open and willing to show their weaknesses. He said he wanted to offer his own, less-than-flattering, perspective on that vulnerability.
He joked that the rapping and impressions were just a preview of more silly moments to come this season, promising he wasn’t finished with his antics.
This has been a successful strategy for the 64-year-old. He recently told People magazine that this record-breaking season has been the “most joyful time of my life when it comes to work.”

He doesn’t seem to be losing his physique and has even said he plans to come back for season 51.
Jeff Probst, who has hosted the show for over 20 years, recently told Entertainment Weekly he has no plans to step down. He expressed his love for the show’s direction, the dedicated crew, and the increasingly diverse group of applicants. Probst noted the growing diversity is because more people are seeing themselves represented on screen, which inspires them to apply – something he finds very encouraging.
