Classic Sylvester Stallone film set for TV remake from major Hollywood director

The beloved film Cop Land, starring Sylvester Stallone, is being adapted for television, and director James Mangold, who previously worked on the movie, will be leading the project.

According to Deadline, Mangold will direct, co-write, and also serve as an executive producer on a new version of his film, a project from Paramount Television Studios and Miramax Television.

This new take on the ’90s crime thriller is writer James Mangold’s first time creating a TV drama; he previously worked as an executive producer on the historical drama Damnation.

According to Deadline, this news follows closely after Mangold’s agreement with Paramount Pictures last September. That deal was finalized just a month after Paramount Global and Skydance Entertainment merged.

The movie, written and directed by Mangold, centers on Freddy Heflin (Stallone), a sheriff from New Jersey, as he confronts dishonest police officers from New York City who have moved to his quiet town.

The film starred Sylvester Stallone, along with Robert De Niro playing Lieutenant Moe Tilden, Ray Liotta as Officer Gary “Figgsy” Figgis, and Harvey Keitel as Lieutenant Ray Donlan.

I always loved seeing Robert Patrick as Officer Jack Rucker in that film! And the supporting cast was fantastic – Annabella Sciorra as Liz Randone really stood out, as did Edie Falco playing Berta, and Janeane Garofalo as Deputy Sheriff Cindy Betts. They all brought so much to their roles.

The cast for the remake is yet to be announced.

Recently, James Mangold directed both the Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown, and the latest Indiana Jones film, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
