PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members have a limited time to download a highly-rated game from 2019 at no extra cost. Subscribers can download and play this game until May 19th, after which it will be removed from the PlayStation Plus library, and it may not be available again. Fortunately, you can finish the main story in around 10-15 hours, and even complete most of the side content in about 25 hours. So, if you’re a subscriber, you have time to finish the game before it’s removed, but it’s best to start playing soon if you only have a few hours to play each week.
Remedy Entertainment’s 2019 game, Control, was a new adventure when it came out, but has since become a series with a sequel, Control Resonant, planned for release this year. There was also a multiplayer spin-off, FBC: Firebreak, scheduled for 2025, though it didn’t receive good reviews and was considered a failure. Interestingly, Control exists in the same universe as other Remedy games, like Alan Wake.
One of 2019’s Best Games
I remember when Control first came out on August 27, 2019. Critics gave it pretty solid scores – around 82 to 85 on Metacritic, which is definitely good enough to put it among the top games. By the end of the year, it was a huge contender at The Game Awards, getting nominated for eight awards, including Game of the Year! It actually won Best Art Direction, which makes sense because the game looks amazing. Players seemed to agree, giving it a 4.38 out of 5 on the PlayStation Store, and you could usually pick it up for around $40. Now, through PS Plus, they’re offering the Ultimate Edition, which is great because it includes both of the game’s expansions and has basically replaced the original version on the digital store.
PlayStation Plus Essential members aren’t included in this free game offer, but PlayStation 4 owners are! If you have PS Plus Extra or Premium, you can download Control Ultimate Edition for free on both PS5 and PS4. However, like PS5 players, PS4 users will only have access to the game until May 19th.
