A tragic accident has taken a life.
A construction worker died in an accident while building the stage for Shakira’s concert in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The concert is scheduled for May 2nd, and event organizers confirmed the death on social media on April 26th.
According to a statement – originally written in Portuguese – first responders gave the patient immediate care. Firefighters were called right away to take the patient to the hospital, but sadly, the patient died there.
The organizers stated they are fully supporting the company involved, its employees, and the family of the person affected, offering them comfort and expressing their sympathy.
According to People magazine, the local fire department (CBMERJ) reported that a construction worker sustained serious crushing injuries to his legs while using a lifting system. Fortunately, firefighters found that he had already been freed from the equipment when they arrived on the scene.
According to the statement, military medics from the 3rd Maritime Group (GMAR-Copacabana) provided immediate first aid to the injured person before transporting them to Miguel Couto Municipal Hospital. Sadly, despite the best efforts of the rescue team, the person was pronounced dead at the hospital.
A stage is currently under construction on Copacabana Beach, and it’s predicted to attract a massive crowd of the singer’s fans and visitors.

Fifty-one-year-old Antonio Marcos Ferreira dos Santos, who saw the accident happen, described what he witnessed.
We suddenly saw people running, and when we turned to look, the building had collapsed, according to a report from France 24. Witnesses said a man was trapped under the rubble, and people immediately ran to try and rescue him.
Although Shakira hasn’t spoken publicly about the unfortunate accident, she did express her enthusiasm for the concert that was planned for later that same day.

She excitedly posted on Instagram on April 26th, saying she was getting ready for her show in Rio with lots of surprises planned – including guest performers, new outfits, and songs she hoped fans would enjoy. She expressed her eagerness to finally be there.
She ended her caption by calling Copacabana Beach the “altar of the planet.”
