Okay, so Attack on Titan is finished, which is bittersweet, but I’m so excited to see what Hajime Isayama does next! He’s already revisited the Attack on Titan world with little stories like Bad Boy, but he’s clearly eager to try new things. And get this – with the new Star Wars movie coming out, he drew a fantastic poster of the Mandalorian and Grogu! It’s not a Titan battle, obviously, but it just shows he hasn’t lost his incredible artistic touch. It’s awesome to see him branch out!
I recently learned some interesting details from Isayama about his connection to Star Wars. He shared that he first saw the original trilogy while staying with a host family in Idaho. Apparently, they showed him Episodes 6, 5, and 4—in that order! He described a striking contrast between the high-tech spaceships and the very real, earthy smells of mold and dust in the house, and that’s what really made an impression on him. He said that experience is what Star Wars meant to him, and he also confessed that he thinks Grogu is just incredibly cute! They also released a new poster for the film, which you can see below.
The Titans of Disney
With the live-action Mandalorian & Grogu movie on the horizon, the world of Star Wars is also exploring animation. The Disney+ series Star Wars: Visions has already released three seasons, featuring stories set in the Star Wars galaxy created by various anime studios. Although a fourth season hasn’t been officially announced, the increasing popularity of anime suggests that more seasons – and potentially other animated projects – could be coming soon.
It was so cool to see some of my favorite manga artists talk about Star Wars! Along with comments and artwork from Hajime Isayama, creators like George Morikawa (Hajime no Ippo), Ito Ogure (Air Gear), Ken Wakui (Tokyo Revengers), and Atsushi Ohkubo (Soul Eater) all contributed to a Mandalorian collaboration, sharing what the franchise means to them. I especially loved hearing Atsushi Okubo talk about lightsabers – he even hopes little Grogu will get one someday! It’s awesome to see artists I admire connect with a galaxy far, far away.
It’s easy to go on and on about how great “Star Wars” is, but lightsabers are a particular favorite of mine! I enjoy all colors – red, green, and especially blue. I think my love for blue lightsabers might be why I’ve always thought anything with a blue glow looks awesome. I’m excited to see Grogu’s journey with the Mandalorian, and I’d be thrilled if he eventually learned to use a green lightsaber!
