2026 Pokemon Go Fest Just Got Much More Exciting With Mega Mewtwo & Fully Free Global Event Confirmed

As a long-time Pokémon Go player, I’m so excited that the game is turning 10 this summer! That means Pokémon Go Fest is coming up, and it’s always a huge deal for us. We haven’t known much about what to expect this year – just the dates and a few hints about costumed Pokémon. But Niantic just dropped some more details, and honestly, this year’s Fest is shaping up to be the best one yet! I can’t wait!

This year’s Pokémon Go Fest will start with live events in three cities: Tokyo (May 29th – June 1st), Chicago (June 5th-7th), and Copenhagen (June 12th-14th). Then, a worldwide event for all players will be held on July 11th and 12th, shortly after the game celebrates its 10th anniversary. This year’s global event will feature the first-ever appearance of Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y, and for the first time, it will be completely free – all event content will be accessible to everyone.

Mega Mewtwo X and Y Confirmed For Go Fest 2026 Debut

Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y, powerful forms of the popular Pokémon Mewtwo, are coming to Pokémon Go! Niantic announced these additions will be available during Pokémon Go Fest 2026. The good news is you won’t need to find and catch a new Mewtwo to use these Mega Evolutions.

During Pokémon Go Fest 2026, Mewtwo will be able to Mega Evolve into its two Mega Forms using special Mega Energy. Players will initially have to pick which Mega Mewtwo they want to pursue through a Timed Research questline available at the in-person event. Completing this research will reward you with an encounter with either Mega Mewtwo X or Mega Mewtwo Y, and it will already be at its highest Mega Level.

On July 11th, a special event kicks off, giving Pokémon trainers the chance to battle Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y in Super Mega Raids. Winning these battles will earn you Mega Energy, letting you evolve your Mewtwo into either of its Mega Forms. Plus, any Mewtwo you catch during these raids will already have one Mega Level unlocked, meaning it will take less Mega Energy to fully evolve them. And there’s even more exciting news about this year’s Global Go Fest!

Pokemon Go Fest Global Will Be Fully Free in 2026 With Nothing Locked Behind Paid Tickets

For years, the best parts of the annual Go Fest Global event have been reserved for players who purchased tickets – things like unique research tasks or better chances of finding shiny Pokémon. This made the events feel less appealing for many. But this year, to mark the arrival of Mega Metwos X & Y and celebrate Pokémon Go’s 10th anniversary, Go Fest Global will be completely free! That means all content will be accessible to everyone, with no ticket purchase necessary.

From July 11th to 12th, all Pokémon Go players can fully participate in the Global Go Fest event. Simply logging in during the weekend will unlock event-exclusive Special Research, increased chances of finding Shiny Pokémon, and other free perks. It’s also a great opportunity to earn Mewtwo Mega Energy, which is needed for Mega Evolutions from the X and Y generations, making this year’s Global Go Fest even more exciting!
