Anime has become incredibly popular lately, showing up in unexpected places. We’ve seen North American sports teams team up with shows like Jujutsu Kaisen, One Piece, and Dragon Ball. But Japan is also full of interesting collaborations between anime and real-world organizations. Recently, police officers in one region started recreating iconic poses from popular anime like Dragon Ball, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, and Baki Hanma as a fun way to engage with the public. They’ve become known as the “Pose Police.”
The Nagasaki Prefectural Police recently used popular anime poses – including those from characters like Josuke Higashikata, Yujiro Hanma, and Captain Ginyu – on their social media to connect with residents. Along with the fun photos, they shared important updates: they’re hiring and reminding people to be aware of police impersonation scams. With anime being so popular in Japan, it’s no surprise they’re using it to get their message across online.

A History of Anime Poses
Even in very serious anime, humor often finds a way to shine through. Take Dragon Ball Z‘s Planet Namek saga, for example. It was filled with intense battles, death, and fights with universal consequences. Even the villainous Ginyu Force, known for their over-the-top poses when they arrived, managed to be both terrifying and funny. When they first appear – Ginyu, Berter, Jeice, Recoome, and Guldo striking their best poses – they ultimately cause a lot of trouble for Goku and his friends.
Among anime series famous for their unique poses, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is particularly well-known for them. Throughout the series created by Hirohiko Araki, the Joestar family – and especially its Stand users – frequently strike dramatic poses to express a wide range of emotions. Fans can look forward to more, as Netflix has revived the series with JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run. The first episode premiered earlier this year, and while a release date for the next part hasn’t been announced, it’s expected to arrive later in the year. With two additional storylines – JoJolion and The JOJOLands – following Steel Ball Run, fans can anticipate many more years of JoJo’s adventures on screen. Creator Hirohiko Araki has even expressed his desire to continue writing the manga indefinitely, ensuring a long future for the series.
