As a big Steam fan, I’m really excited to hear that Valve is finally going to share some updates about the Steam Machine! It feels like ages since they announced it would be delayed earlier this year, and we haven’t heard much since. Everyone’s been wondering when it’s actually coming out and how much it’ll cost, and it sounds like we won’t have to wait much longer to find out. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for some good news soon!
Valve has told IGN that the Steam Machine is nearing release. While they didn’t give a specific date, they promised to share official news about timing “soon.” This suggests the Steam Machine is still expected to launch in the first half of 2026, as originally planned.
Valve’s Pierre-Louis Griffais explained that the Steam Machine will operate similarly to the Steam Deck when connected to a dock. While much more powerful than the Deck, the core functionality will be familiar. Griffais also stated that development of the Steam Machine is largely complete, with the team now focused on refining and polishing the experience.
According to Griffais, the main challenge with the Steam Machine is simply getting it to customers. He explained that if you’ve used a Steam Deck connected to a dock, you’ll have a good idea of what to expect. The Steam Machine will offer a similar experience, but with more powerful graphics. While there’s still work to be done on refining the details and adding features, the fundamental experience is already solid.
Although we’re still waiting for news about the Steam Machine, Valve will release its Steam Controller next week on May 4th. The controller will cost $99, a fair price compared to other similar options. The Steam Machine is expected to be much more expensive – over $1000 – so potential buyers should keep saving up.
