2026 is shaping up to be an excellent year for video games, with many hyped titles delivering on expectations. Currently, Pokemon Pokopia and Resident Evil Requiem are neck and neck for the highest Metascore of the year, both scoring an impressive 89. However, several other games are close behind, including the popular indie game Mewgenics and the recently launched action title SAROS. Now, a new game is expected to join the ranks of 2026’s best, and it will be available on Xbox Game Pass from the moment it releases.
The new game inKONBINI, a story-focused management simulator from indie developer Nagai Industries, launches on April 30th. Early critic reviews are starting to appear, and the first three are very promising. It’s already received two 9/10 scores and one 8/10, averaging around 87. If upcoming reviews are similarly positive, inKONBINI could become one of the highest-rated games of the year.
inKONBINI Preps for Day One Xbox Game Pass & Multiplatform Release with Promising Review Scores

What’s making inKONBINI so well-received? It’s a relaxing, story-driven game where you manage a small convenience store in 1990s Japan. You’ll handle the day-to-day tasks of running the store and build relationships with the customers who visit. Players are saying it captures the cozy, nostalgic feel of a slice-of-life anime, combined with the gameplay of a management simulation.
Initial reactions to the game are very positive, highlighting its easy-to-learn but rewarding gameplay, attention to detail, and ability to keep players hooked. The game also boasts compelling characters and a story that seems to fulfill the developer’s vision for a narrative-focused simulation. It appears to be a fantastic addition for fans of management sims, and anyone seeking a relaxing, retro gaming experience. You can preview the gameplay with the recently released trailer from the ID @ Xbox showcase, and the game launches on April 30th.
If you didn’t get to play Pokemon Pokopia because you don’t have a Switch 2, there’s good news! This popular and relaxing game is coming to more platforms. inKONBINI will be available on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on April 30th, the same day it releases. You’ll be able to play it on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and with Xbox Play Anywhere, you can play on both your console and PC.
If you don’t subscribe to Game Pass, you can still play the game! It’s launching on Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and PC through Steam, meaning it’s available on almost every major gaming platform. Plus, it’s verified to work on the Steam Deck, which is great news for anyone who loves playing games on the go. I think this game is perfect for handheld devices, and it’s good to have several options for playing it that way.
The game inKONBINI comes out on April 30th. It will be available immediately with Xbox Game Pass, and will cost $19.99 on other platforms.
