As a big MCU fan, I loved a quick Easter egg in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, episode 7 – it actually felt pretty significant! What I really appreciate in great TV is how well they build a world, and Born Again is doing that with New York City itself. It’s not just a backdrop; the story is about the city, with Wilson Fisk trying to reshape Manhattan to his will. Episode 7 really drove that home with the death of Daniel Blake. He felt like a regular guy, someone who represented the average New Yorker caught up in Fisk’s schemes.
The episode includes beautiful views of the New York City skyline. Keen-eyed fans have spotted that this isn’t the real New York, but the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s version, including the Thunderbolts’ base, previously known as Avengers Tower. While it might appear to be a simple Easter egg, this detail is actually quite significant.
Daredevil: Born Again Fixes a Major Marvel Netflix Complaint

The new series Born Again feels like a continuation of the Marvel shows that originally appeared on Netflix, starting with Daredevil in 2015. While these shows were initially presented as being part of the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, observant fans soon picked up on inconsistencies. Major events from the main MCU, like the Battle of New York (often called “The Incident”), were rarely acknowledged, and it became obvious that these shows wouldn’t be tightly connected. A subtle but telling detail was the absence of Avengers Tower in the city skyline of Daredevil and the other Netflix Marvel series.
Jeph Loeb, from Marvel Television, tried to explain why the show avoided pinpointing a specific location. He told Inverse in 2017 that being vague allowed viewers to imagine the events happening anywhere. He used the example of the Empire State Building – just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean it isn’t there. However, this reasoning felt strange considering many of the shows actually focused on very specific places.
The likely reason for the change is simply cost. The old Marvel Netflix shows often used the same shots of New York City, and updating those shots would have been expensive – money that could have been used to improve the story. Fans still noticed and complained, though! It’s funny to see Avengers Tower, now called the Watchtower, appear in the skyline of the new Daredevil: Born Again series. It feels like a clear signal that everything within the Marvel universe is officially connected now.
Daredevil: Born Again Just Confirmed the MCU Timeline
Okay, so as a huge fan, I’m so excited! We finally have a better idea of when Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 will take place after Thunderbolts. I was rewatching Episode 7, and noticed the construction scaffolding that was visible in Episode 1 is gone. Plus, that weird ‘spike’ structure behind the tower is now finished! It looks like Season 2 is picking up pretty quickly after the events of the Thunderbolts movie – awesome!

This isn’t just a fun hidden detail; it officially confirms when the second season of Daredevil: Born Again takes place within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Thunderbolts was being filmed, the Watchtower building still had scaffolding around it. However, in Born Again Season 2, the scaffolding is gone, and the building is finished. This strongly suggests, as many fans predicted, that Born Again Season 2 happens soon after the events of Thunderbolts. This timing is important because it’s a key part of the story.
Charles is working for the Contessa, and together they’re illegally shipping weapons through New York City by exploiting the Kingpin. Surprisingly, this is happening after the events involving the Thunderbolts – the Contessa has managed to avoid consequences and is still operating. It seems the Thunderbolts (or her new team, the New Avengers) haven’t been successful in controlling her.
The unfolding events might reveal the original agreement between the Contessa and Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin. Fisk’s crackdown on vigilantes should definitely impact the New Avengers, who are based in New York. It seems he let them operate freely in exchange for allowing the Contessa to exploit the Red Hook freeport. However, that deal has now fallen apart, and it’s all thanks to Mr. Charles, who unfortunately involved Jessica Jones, causing everything to unravel.
