Netflix has given fans a first glimpse at its new thriller, The Whisper Man. The film stars Robert De Niro, along with Adam Scott from Severance and Michelle Monaghan of The White Lotus.
The thriller, based on Alex North’s popular 2019 novel, will be available to stream starting Friday, August 28th. The film is directed by James Ashcroft, known for his work on ‘The Rule of Jenny Pen’.
A crime writer, recently widowed, turns to his estranged, retired police detective father when his eight-year-old son is kidnapped. Their search for the boy uncovers a link to a cold case involving a notorious serial killer nicknamed ‘The Whisper Man’.

The released photos show Scott, Monaghan, and De Niro in their roles. One image, in particular, stands out: it depicts Scott looking troubled while Monaghan and De Niro appear to be protecting him.
Another photo shows him with his child, likely taken before the kidnapping. The remaining pictures depict Monaghan’s character seemingly involved in a search, and Scott’s character studying a map.
This marks the second time this year Scott will portray a writer facing challenges, following his role in the horror film Hokum, which opens in UK cinemas this Friday, May 1st.

Joining the previously announced cast members are Hamish Linklater, known for his work in “Midnight Mass,” Owen Teague from “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” young actor Acston Luca Porto of “Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado,” and Will Brill, who starred in “The OA.”
The Whisper Man will be released on Netflix on Friday 28 August 2026.
