I’m so excited! A new That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime movie is hitting theaters this week, and Crunchyroll just dropped a sneak peek! As a huge fan of this awesome Isekai series, it’s been amazing seeing it come back this spring with a new season following Rimuru and the growth of Tempest. And the best part? There’s even more on the way for us fans to enjoy!
The movie That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: Tears of the Azure Sea first came out in Japan earlier this year, and now Crunchyroll is bringing it to North American theaters on May 1st. The film features a new story written by Fuse, the author of the original light novels, and a sneak peek shows Gobta playing a big part. In a clip shared with ComicBook, Gobta and a new character named Yura are caught in a surprise attack – you can watch it below!
What to Know for New Reincarnated as a Slime Movie
The new movie, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Tears of the Azure Sea, arrives in North America on May 1st. You’ll be able to watch it with either Japanese or English audio. Directed by Yasuhito Kikuchi and created by studio Eightbit (who also made the anime series), the film’s story takes place after Season 3 but before Season 4. This means fans don’t need to finish the latest episodes to understand and enjoy the movie.
The new movie’s story is being guided by the original series writer, Fuse, with a script from Yasuhito Kikuchi and Toshizo Nemoto. Ryoma Ebata is handling the character designs, and Hitoshi Fujima is composing the music. Fans will meet some new characters, most notably Yura, who will be voiced by Saori Onishi (Japanese) and Allegra Clark (English). The sneak peek also suggests that Gobta will have a significant part to play in the film.
What’s Going on With Reincarnated as a Slime Right Now?
While That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Tears of the Azure Sea tells a new story, it also hints at future events within the overall series. The movie introduces characters and concepts that will likely become important later on, which is exciting news given that Season 4 of the anime is planned to have five parts.
I think fans of Gobta will especially love this new movie. He doesn’t get much focus in the main series because there are so many characters, so it’s great to finally see a story really centered around him. If you’re not already familiar, you can catch up on all the seasons, OVAs, and previous movies of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime – it’s all available on Crunchyroll.
