Highly Rated Free Fantasy RPG is Finally Available on Steam (And It’s Perfect Timing)

Gamers often wonder if new mobile games will also be available on PC, and usually, the answer is no, especially when the game first releases. However, even though mobile gaming is becoming more popular, many players still prefer playing on PCs or consoles. That’s why it’s great news when a popular mobile game becomes available on PC platforms like Steam. Even games that already have their own PC versions often see requests for a Steam release, so players can keep all their games in one place. Now, another free-to-play RPG has joined Steam, and it’s perfectly timed.

The fantasy role-playing game AFK Journey launched in Asia in March 2024 and became available worldwide in August. It quickly gained a large and loyal following, earning over 72,000 ratings on the Apple App Store and 293,000 reviews on Google Play. While a PC version existed, it wasn’t available on major PC gaming platforms like Steam until April 28th. This release is perfectly timed for fans of the anime Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End.

AFK Journey Brings Another Free Anime-Infused Open-World RPG to Steam

AFK Journey offers players a large, beautiful world inspired by storybooks to discover. It blends exploration with card battles, creating an engaging experience that’s attracted a dedicated following. Like many free mobile games, it uses a ‘gacha’ system to unlock new characters. However, players praise AFK Journey for its stunning character designs, captivating story, and how easy it is to play without spending money. Plus, the game frequently features exciting collaborations with popular anime series.

Since its launch in 2024, AFK Journey has been adding characters from well-known anime series through special crossover events. These events introduce new stories and let players collect their favorite heroes. Past collaborations have included characters from Fairy Tail and Delicious in Dungeon. Now, the game is preparing for another exciting event, bringing Frieren and Himmel the Hero from the anime Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End into the game.

I’m so excited! The Frieren event in AFK Journey kicks off May 1st, and the timing couldn’t be better – they’re releasing the game on Steam at the very end of April! As someone who loves playing on PC, this is awesome because I can add AFK Journey to my Steam library without needing yet another launcher. It gives me a few days to get comfortable with everything before the Frieren characters arrive – I’ve been waiting for this crossover for ages! Plus, if you already started playing on mobile, you don’t have to worry about starting over. Your progress carries over, so you can switch between playing on your phone and on PC seamlessly.

You can download and play AFK Journey for free on Steam, as well as on iOS and Android devices. Optional in-game purchases are available. A special event based on Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End starts May 1st and will be available on both the mobile and PC versions of the game at the same time.
