The story of someone returning to their hometown after a long absence is a familiar movie trope, and Zeshan Younus uses it in her independent film, ‘I’ve seen all I need to see’. The film centers on Parker (played by Renee Gagner), an actress from Los Angeles, who returns home to find her sister, Indiana (Rosie McDonald). Indiana has gotten mixed up in a dangerous situation with a biker gang and warned Parker not to come looking if anything happened. Of course, something has happened, and Parker begins the search, a search the audience soon realizes might have been best left undone.
I was really hoping for a clever story with interesting characters and a cool visual style, but honestly, I was so disappointed. Instead of a gripping plot, we get a lot of overly dramatic voiceovers and a story that just…doesn’t go anywhere. It’s filled with these endless, pointless shots – a window corner, under a bridge, someone walking up stairs shown in full – and they drag the whole thing out. The 84 minutes felt much, much longer. It’s almost unbelievable that the title doesn’t even show up until 32 minutes in! I can just imagine people hitting fast forward if they try to watch this at home.
The show relies heavily on close-up shots of Parker gazing off into the distance, accompanied by a voiceover delivering empty and cliché statements – the kind even Meghan Markle might find too much. Viewers likely felt they’d seen enough after just one minute of Meghan Markle’s cooking show, and this new show seems destined to have the same effect, testing the limits of audience patience with its self-importance.
