Summer 2026 promises a lot of superhero action, and one of the most anticipated movies is Craig Gillespie’s Supergirl. The film stars Milly Alcock alongside Jason Momoa as Lobo and introduces Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll. They’ll be on a revenge mission while also trying to save Krypto after he’s been poisoned. The villain responsible is a new face in live-action DC films, and for good reason – harming the DCU’s beloved mascot doesn’t go unnoticed. Supergirl hits theaters in June and is a major highlight in our upcoming Summer Movies & TV Preview, and we’re excited to share a sneak peek now.
The new season of Supergirl introduces a dangerous villain named Krem (played by Matthias Schoenaerts), a space pirate who resembles characters from Mad Max. Krem is responsible for the death of Ruthye’s parents and, in a shocking moment from the trailer, poisons Krypto with a dart that will be fatal if not treated. This attack fuels Kara (played by Alcock) to seek revenge, as Krypto is her closest companion. We have an exclusive first look at a face-to-face confrontation between them.

Time is Running out in Supergirl (for Krypto AND Krem)
The storyline of Supergirl shares a lot with the movie True Grit, focusing on revenge for a family tragedy and Kara’s initial unwillingness to work with others. Considering Kara’s distance from humanity and her tendency to act recklessly, the subplot involving Ruthye and Krypto seems designed to help her find a sense of belonging, as Superman points out in the trailer. The idea that her ‘people’ are a rebellious alien dog, a wild bounty hunter, and another girl who understands her pain feels like a fitting resolution.
The comic book version of Krem was more conventionally handsome, with red hair and a beard, masking his violent nature. Matthias Schoenaerts’ portrayal, however, looks like a truly menacing character, fitting right into the rough, criminal underworld we’ve glimpsed in the trailers. He even bears a resemblance to the Ravagers from James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. The trailers also suggest a dangerous encounter with Supergirl, where she appears to be poisoned, proving Krem is a formidable threat.
