Shifting Gears Season 3 Renewal Announced With ABC Cast Video

is coming back for a third season!

The popular ABC comedy is returning for a third season! The show announced the news on X (formerly Twitter) with a fun video featuring cast members. It started with Kat Dennings and included Seann William Scott, Daryl Mitchell, Maxwell Simkins, and Barrett Margolis all saying ‘three,’ before Tim Allen officially confirmed the show’s renewal.

“And… We’re back,” Allen quipped, as a burst of confetti exploded behind him.

Although the latest preview didn’t announce when the third season will air, it reassured fans of the family comedy that it will return for at least one more season. This follows a recent report from ABC, released earlier this month – over two months after season two ended – which strongly hinted at the renewal by revealing the network’s schedule for the 2026-2027 season.

Premiering in January 2025, this sitcom was created by Mike and Julie Thacker Scully. It centers around Matt Allen, a car shop owner and widower, whose life is disrupted when his long-lost daughter, Riley Dennings, and her two children move in with him. Matt finds himself unexpectedly adjusting to a much fuller house as he cautiously welcomes them into his life.

I’m really excited about this new show! Not only is Zachery Ty Bryan from Home Improvement going to be in front of the camera, but he’s also helping to make it happen behind the scenes as an executive producer. He’s working with a fantastic team, including Michelle Nader, Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker, Rick Messina, John Pasquin, Jim Patterson, Bob Daily, and John Amodeo. And it’s cool to see Zoey Deutch, who plays the main character, is also a producer on the project!

Seasons 1 and 2 of Shifting Gears are currently streaming on Hulu.
