Daredevil: Born Again Season 2’s Shocking Death Hurts The MCU Series

Be warned, this article reveals major plot points from Episode 7 of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. The latest installment of Daredevil: Born Again features a particularly heartbreaking death, marking one of the saddest moments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and likely changing the direction of the show. Right from the start, this new version of the Daredevil series, starring Charlie Cox, has shown a willingness to embrace darker and more violent storylines, as evidenced by a significant death in the very first episode.

The death in question was Foggy Nelson’s – a beloved character from the Netflix series Daredevil, played by Elden Henson – who was brutally killed by Wilson Bethel’s Bullseye. Even now, Foggy’s death remains a particularly heartbreaking moment in the broader Marvel story. And the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again season is proving to be just as devastating, with several other key characters meeting their end.

Bullseye unexpectedly added Vanessa Fisk to his list of targets. It initially seemed like Kingpin had intervened to protect her, but Vanessa was fatally struck by a piece of glass. She briefly regained consciousness in the hospital, spoke with Fisk, and then tragically died, leaving him helpless to save her.

In the latest episode of Daredevil: Born Again, another character has died just before the season finale. This week, Daniel Blake, played by Michael Gandolfini, was killed. He had originally planned to expose BB Urich, which would have led to her death at the hands of Buck, but he changed his mind. Unfortunately, confronting Buck without any evidence resulted in Daniel being fatally shot by one of Fisk’s assassins.

Daniel’s Death Takes Away One Of Daredevil: Born Again’s Best Storylines

Daniel’s character arc throughout the two seasons of Daredevil: Born Again was compelling. He began as an ambitious man eager to impress Mayor Fisk, and quickly became one of Kingpin’s closest supporters. But as the show progressed, Daniel started to have doubts, ultimately leading him to betray Kingpin and help BB.

As a fan, I was really bummed to see Daniel go. He was the only one on Fisk’s side who felt…complicated. Everyone else was either totally loyal to Kingpin or just pretending to be because they were scared of him. Daniel being gone takes away a lot of potential drama. It would have been amazing if BB could have convinced Daniel to secretly help Daredevil, acting as a spy within Kingpin’s organization. That possibility is just…gone now, and it’s a real shame.

With Daniel gone, there’s no chance for him to turn good, unlike what’s happening with the villain Bullseye in the current Marvel series. While his death makes sense – he willingly embraced darkness and knew Fisk was dangerous – it’s still incredibly sad, especially considering how brilliantly James Gandolfini was acting each episode.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Firmly Proves The MCU Series Does Not Shy Away From Major Deaths

The upcoming season of Daredevil: Born Again won’t shy away from killing off significant characters if it serves the story. While Foggy Nelson died in the first season, that plot point was established early on and couldn’t be altered. When the show underwent creative changes, the existing footage meant new showrunner Dario Scardapane had to build the story around Foggy’s death instead of reversing it.

For the second season, Scardapane had complete creative freedom, yet he still chose to kill off important characters like Vanessa, who was a key part of the original Netflix show, and Daniel from the Born Again storyline. This sets the stage for unexpected deaths not just in the season finale, but also in the already-planned season 3 and beyond. It means no character is safe on Daredevil: Born Again, which has both positive and negative consequences, as seen with Daniel’s death.
