Alison Hammond is bringing back a beloved game show to ITV1 and ITVX where she’ll challenge people on the street to identify popular songs.
Name That Tune is a competition where players test their musical knowledge in quick rounds, identifying songs by famous artists and bands.
As a total movie and music buff, I love how each round of this game keeps things simple: you just have to name the song! It’s a classic challenge, really – can you recognize the tune?
The popular music quiz, Name That Tune, originally appeared on British television in 1976 as a segment of the variety show, Wednesday at Eight – later known as London Night Out. It was inspired by earlier musical quizzes like Spot That Tune, and itself was adapted from a US radio show.
Great British Bake Off’s Hammond is taking over hosting duties from past presenters like Tom O’Connor, Lionel Blair, and Jools Holland, who previously hosted the show’s revival in the 1990s.
The popular show Name That Tune is currently on Fox in the United States, hosted by Jane Krakowski, known from 30 Rock. The same band that plays on the US version will also be performing in the upcoming UK edition of the show.

Hammond, a huge music fan, joked that his biggest challenge as host will be resisting the urge to sing along with his favorite songs – it’s going to take a lot of willpower, he says!
As a lifelong fan of the original series, joining the show now feels incredibly special. I’m really excited to start working with the contestants, challenge their musical knowledge, and discover who truly shines.
We’re thrilled to have the incredible Name That Tune band with us! They’ll be playing all the biggest hits with their own energetic and unique sound. It’s going to be an amazing show – bigger, louder, and more fun than anything we’ve done before!
Katie Rawcliffe, head of entertainment at ITV, said they’re thrilled to bring a new version of the classic game show, Name That Tune, to viewers in the UK. She described the show as a well-known and beloved format.
This is a lively family show where contestants face challenges on screen, and everyone at home can join in the fun by creating their own playlists featuring music from different eras.
