A New 8-Part Yellowstone Replacement Is Officially Coming Soon

Yellowstone could be replaced, sooner rather than later.

Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone has become a huge hit, revitalizing the Western genre. The original series, which premiered in 2018, centers on the Dutton family’s struggle to maintain their Montana ranch. Its popularity has spawned several follow-up shows, including 1883, 1923, Marshals, and Dutton Ranch.

STARZ is developing a new series that could fill the gap left by Yellowstone. The show will be led by Kirk A. Moore, known for his work on Jack Ryan, and will include producers who have experience on hits like Breaking Bad and Interview with the Vampire. The eight-episode first season will focus on the exciting world of Black rodeo in Texas. While the series doesn’t have a title yet, here’s a brief description of what it’s about:

This series, brimming with both hip hop energy and country heart, is set in Southeast Texas, where rodeo is more than a sport—it’s a way of life. The story follows three siblings connected by their mother’s hard-earned reputation and the unresolved issues left by their father. Each driven to succeed and constantly pulled into each other’s lives, they form shifting partnerships, complicated relationships, and find that secrets don’t stay hidden for long.

Kathryn Busby, head of original programming at STARZ, described the new series as a captivating blend of complex family relationships, stunning visuals, and confident style. She emphasized its unique storytelling and its authentic portrayal of Texas, combining urban and country elements. Busby expressed excitement about bringing this one-of-a-kind show to STARZ viewers.

STARZ is known for popular shows like the Power franchise, which includes Power, Power Book II: Ghost, Power Book III: Raising Kanan, and Power Book IV: Force. They also have the critically acclaimed series Outlander, which is finishing its run. Now, STARZ is exploring Westerns, potentially following the success of Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe and similar shows being added to Netflix and Prime Video.

The popular series Yellowstone is expanding with a new spin-off called Dutton Ranch, premiering on May 15th. This show will continue the story of Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) and Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) after Yellowstone concludes. They’ll be starting over in Texas, facing challenges from a competing ranch that threatens everything they’re building.

STARZ hasn’t announced the official name or release date for the show that will follow Yellowstone.
